Full Version: I've heard of nib creep, but pen creep?

I have a Pelikan M200 but with a gold nib. Using Noodlers luxury blue, I get a lot of nib creep. However, the ink also creeps from the nib to the body of the pen, where it gets my fingers inky.

Is this normal? I have the nib screwed in to finger tight + a little more.

Thats strange. But Noodlers creeps a lot. blink.gif tongue.gif

Green marine all over my nib... blink.gif

I've experienced this with an Omas Paragon and Noodler's Aquamarine; also Swishmix Glacier Blue. As best I can tell, the ink creeps out where the nib fits into the section. From there it gets into the cap, and from the cap it gets onto the grippable part of the section, and then to the fingers. This emphatically does not happen with non-eternal Noodler's, e.g., Midnight Blue. Life is a trade-off, I guess. <_<

Fortunately, I have other nice pens -- Aurora, Pelikan -- where the creep is confined to the nib. Perhaps not coincidentally, both Aurora and Pelikan have screw-in nibs. That may be important. unsure.gif

Is the nib properly tightened? I use Luxury Blue and Legal Lapis. I see nib creep but have only experienced what you describe when the nib of my Pelikan had become a bit loose (and creep became "drops" inside the cap).

Maybe not. How do you guage how much to tighten it?

Grasp the nib and tighten towards the right....just to the point you feel slight resistance. Fairly simple affair. Good to know 'cuz you'll want to remove the nib every so often for a good flushing of the nib and barrel.

I'm certain someone can provide you some informative 'sites to visit on this subject (if not, you can review within this 'site using the 'search' function).

My best,

I've had this happen on two diferent pens and found that there was a virtually invisible crack and ink was coming through the section. My speculation that this was due to overtightening or other abuse (they were used ebay cheap pens).

If anyone has a suggestion on how to seal these cracks I'd give it a try.

Hi Andy,

Try shellac, applied with something very small, like a tooth pick. Let the shellac get soaked in by capillary action, and once it is dry and all done, remove the excess with a cloth that is just a little damp with cleaning alcohol.

BTW, best to clean the pen first, rinse and flush, and let it dry properly, prior to applying the shellac.

Thanks! I'll order some shellac (I've got to try resacking 2 Esterbrooks, too) and give it a go. One is a Waterman with a Keith Haring design, the other is a Yaffa fp/pencil combo.
