I believe that "connaisseur" is the proper spelling in French. Roger, you're missin' out on a great writer...

Yes, I do realise that, although I discovered that the 'English' spelling derives from Old French....but Sheaffer has, as far as I'm aware, always been an
American company?
It just looks to me as if someone mis-spelled it, and all the sales literature got printed, and it was too late to go back

Then someone (high-up) said "What the heck..no-one will notice!"

It has the same effect as the all-too-common use of 'compliments' in sales bumf, when it should be 'complements'....just mild irritation!
According to that bastion of credibility, wikipedia, the connaisseur is sort of a "super conoisseur", who has studied the subject intensively, primarily applied to wine "connaisseurs". Shaeffer must have missed the old Snagglepuss cartoons, where the lion pronounced the oi as oy, i.e., can noy see ur. If Snagglepuss had been a real snob, according to Wiki, he could have pronounced it can nay see ur.
