Hi Nikolaos,

Gorgeous set of pens there!!!

Could you identify/give more info on the Platinum(#4 from the left), and the Sailor (#5 from the left). They look exactly like a Pilot Custom Steel and I have never seen them before.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Thank you guys for your comments!

Erick, i have only inked the stainless capless so far, which i am using today. It writes a beautiful true Fine line that makes me very happy. The rest have not been inked yet, and the Platinum and the two short sailors have never been inked.

Rick, i think both the Platinum and the Sailor you are talking about were made in the 1970s. The Platinum is made of sterling silver and has a nice inlaid fine nib marked Pt Alloy (18K WG). The deep grooves on it is a pretty unusual pattern that i have never seen before, and makes the pen look and feel gorgeous with light reflecting off it. I hope perhaps Stan can shed some light as to whether this is a rare pattern or not.
The sailor also has an inlaid 18K WG nib and it is stainless steel with the black pin stripes on it. A beautfiul full size pen that will go into rotation soon.

i will try to make a couple of nib shot of these pens later on

I like your "recently acquired" posts Nikolaos... very nice group of pens.

The sliding clip Capless is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately last time I used mine I cracked the feed just below the nib. crybaby.gif It seems pretty fragile so be careful.

Platinum made a number of pens in sterling during the early 1970s. All were the same basic shape - same cap and barrel design. The Pt - Platinum nib, was a cool way to promote sales. Platinum pen with Platinum nib! Am not sure how much Platinum were in them and have heard it was the bare legal minimum to be able to label it as such. I have a few pens from this series and will eventually take pictures and post what I have on my site. They Pt nibs also came in the Music variety and these must be the rarest. Unfortunately, every one of the Pt nibs I've seen is stiff. This might be the cost of using Platinum.

Congrats, Nikolaos! I like the yellow VP and Elite...it looks almost like my white Lamy Studio biggrin.gif
Nikolaos
Thanks Taki,

I agree the yellow is a total eye-cather. As for the elite, you are right it does look like the Lamy studio. My wife already claimed this beautiful Elite roflmho.gif

Nikolaos inquired about a silver pen from Platinum. It is the fourth from the left in the tray of some of our silver.

Nice photo Stan!

I am really getting more and more into Sterling pens and love vintage Japanese Sterling.
I have number 2, 4, 5 and 8 as well and totally love them. Hoping to get some more in the near future

Thanks for posting this nice photo
