I am debating over getting a fine or medium size nib for my g/f, but I am not sure which one! The pen is a PELIKAN SOUVERAN 400 TORTOISESHELL. She will use it primarily for a journal I got her that will complement the pen. The paper in the journal is white sketch handmade cotton paper. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Why don't you try medium?

Do you have samples of her writing? If I see that I can give a recommendation.

no i dont have samples but she writes about average size, how thick is a medium nib line compared to a typical 90cent ball point pen line?

It depends on what sized nibs she likes. When she writes, are her letters big or small?

Edit: A pelikan medium is quite wide when compared to a regular ballpoint. A fine point is a bit closer.

What is your definition of big?

I guess that is hard to describe.

I think this is more helpful. Print out this: http://www.richardspens.com/images/site/ex...trokewidths.pdf
That should give you a better reference to what size is appropriate.

I have this same pen with a medium nib. I love it. My handwriting is on the small side and I find that the M nib works just fine.
