Early Vintage Conway Stewart Dinkies
CS No. 526, c. 1920's
casein body; gold trim; 14K semi-flex nibs
untapered flat-top; ringtop; single cap-band

This is a beautiful pair in the "green jade" and "blue lapis" colours,
otherwise known as green and blue "measles".

I fell in love with these colours as soon as I saw them.
In case you can't tell from the photos, they are spotted --
hence the "measles" reference.

These are highly collectible when in mint condition.

Here the "measles" are joined by their swirly slate-gray friend.

This pen has a No.526A barrel, and what started out as a band-less
540 cap, but was refitted after-market with bands to make it look
like a 526. The lever is a replacement lever, without the CS logo.

I think I am in love with the vintage CS caseins. The early Dinkie and
Dandy colours are absolutely breath-taking, and as a painter I find the
use of casein as a fountain pen material fascinating.

Many thanks to Andy Russell, and to Barry Rose of Writetime
for making my casein dreams come true!

Hope you enjoyed the photos. I will try to post a more informative review
later in the Pen Review forum.

Thank you : )

The early casein colours are truly like nothing I have ever seen before. I have fallen hard for these! The Dandies from this period are super-expensive, especially when in excellent or mint condition, but I have started to save up for one.

Also, since you like greeen/teal -- there were about half a dozen different greens that were produced. The jade "measles" in my pictures was a popular one, and another fabulous colour was the "green satin", which is a luxurious leaf-green with these sort of rich but subtle swirls of magenta in it, making the pen look like damask. Ah!...

All fabulous, the blue being my favourite, but only just!

You may have already seen them but I'd encourage you to do a search for posts from Andyr7 who has an amazing collection of Dinkies. He hasn't posted for a while and is missed, but he shared some great pics to inspire. Carrie has too!

: ) Andyr7 is the previous owner of the Green Jade and the Gray Dinkies above. The images I've seen of his collection keep me awake at night!
