Hi folks!
Well, I finally bought my first MB, a 146 (Le Grand) after having looked at all other members of the Meisterstück collection currently available. And, after having gotten every single one (of the five) into my hand. (I in fact don't like the Virginia Wolff but I do like the Proust and a few others) but I wanted to start off first with this traditional model class. The Chopin was (for me) too thin and the Mozart was too small, although the latter might be a good candidate for my T-shirt pocket).
Since my store (where I don't work) had about a dozen 146s, I tried them all out wet and finally found one which I really liked (whereby the nib ended up as a broad nib). At first sight it appeared only "okay" but after having changed inks and paper, I now do reconcile that it is indeed a good pen. WHEW!
Of interest to me -- maybe of course not at all to you who know all about MBs -- I feel and see and even hear a difference in tone when writing with it, in comparison with, say, my Parker 51 or Sheaffer Crest. My 146's writing seems to be almost as smooth and wet as those non-MBs (thank G.), but the MB's nib seems to be much more "springy". I don't know if that is the right word here but I do notice it with my MB 146 and not with the other pens mentioned. I see that in the widening of the 146's tines, although I don't press all that hard on paper, but who cares?
Long story --> short submission: My MB 146 is better than originally expected.
Mike
