Hi folks!

Well, I finally bought my first MB, a 146 (Le Grand) after having looked at all other members of the Meisterstück collection currently available. And, after having gotten every single one (of the five) into my hand. (I in fact don't like the Virginia Wolff but I do like the Proust and a few others) but I wanted to start off first with this traditional model class. The Chopin was (for me) too thin and the Mozart was too small, although the latter might be a good candidate for my T-shirt pocket).

Since my store (where I don't work) had about a dozen 146s, I tried them all out wet and finally found one which I really liked (whereby the nib ended up as a broad nib). At first sight it appeared only "okay" but after having changed inks and paper, I now do reconcile that it is indeed a good pen. WHEW!

Of interest to me -- maybe of course not at all to you who know all about MBs -- I feel and see and even hear a difference in tone when writing with it, in comparison with, say, my Parker 51 or Sheaffer Crest. My 146's writing seems to be almost as smooth and wet as those non-MBs (thank G.), but the MB's nib seems to be much more "springy". I don't know if that is the right word here but I do notice it with my MB 146 and not with the other pens mentioned. I see that in the widening of the 146's tines, although I don't press all that hard on paper, but who cares?

Long story --> short submission: My MB 146 is better than originally expected.

The more I read about people's positive experiences with MB the more I think "Well $700 isn't that much for a pen."

Glad you like your pen. I bought my first MB last week; went with the Le Grand too. It's a great pen. I'm already looking forward to my next MB. If I could only get them all at once!

Iam seriously sooo happy with my Montblanc 149 with an extra-fine nib. Im thinking my next pen will be a 146 with gold trim and a fine nib, to match my 149. It's just too bad that these things cost more in Canada than they do in the U.S.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the nice words. Now I have no intention of starting all over again but it's just like this: I had originally had the idea that there might have been no sense in buying a MB pen since they do do so much advertisement and marketing for this that and the other. But since I like to have at least one "representative" of at least big or well known FP brands, a MB had to be on the list. But it is a good writer! I think I can honestly say that if any pen is not really smooth and really wet, I won't buy it. Even if it is a Rolls Royce or a Cadillac!
By the way, my 146 is the gold version. They (my store) didn't have the Platinum but I don't mind. I think both look good and as usual I'd have bought whatever they had (a 146 in gold or platinum) as long as it was the smoothest and wettest of them all. tongue.gif

Eagle, I don't know where you live but if you're in Vancouver or Toronto, the US isn't all that far away. Now of course Edmonton or Churchill is another story. Maybe there is no diff where you live, as any entry into the US is now harder than ever (I think). hmm1.gif

Next time I get a MB, I'll repeat all of the above
