I have blond as well as orange shellac flakes, what is the concentration of flakes: DNA used for adhering pen sacs?

Thanks

I usually use around a 1-2lb cut. I haven't purchased the flakes, I usually just add about 50% more alcohol to the the bullseye 3lb cut. The sac cement that I've bought before looks like its about a 1lb cut, but I prefer it a little thicker.

I use one half the volume of alcohol to a volume of shellac flakes in a bottle, as I don't make more than 15 mL at a time. Shellac flakes dry have an essentially infinite lifetime, but once mixed with alcohol (especially denatured alcohol, which contains fun things like MEK and methanol) will slowly polymerize into a rubbery stuff that will not fully harden, as many a woodworker has discovered when using old shellac as a sealer under laquer.

Should last about six months or so, when I toss mine and make more.

You want at least a 1 lb cut (1 pound of shellac flakes to a gallon), I'd think 2 or 3 lb cut would be better, as you need to keep a film between the sac and the nipple under some pressure. Exact amount doesn't matter so long as the sac sticks well!
