Hello everyone!

The next meeting of the Central Penn Pens will take place on Saturday, 13 September 2008. We'll gather at 1:00PM in the back room of Café Fresco, 3352 Paxton St, just east of Harrisburg. This location is like the hub of a spoked wheel of major roads, and is easy to get to from I-81, I-83, I-76 (Pa Turnpike) and US322.

Our tentative presenter will be Jim Rouse, who is the organizer for the Philadelphia Pen Shows and works for the new Sheaffer USA organization. Many of you knew him as proprietor of the Bertram's Baltimore store. (Jim doesn’t know this, but he pushed yours truly down the road of this fountain pen hobby.)

We'll have pen collections and the opportunity to trade, buy or sell. Then there's the ink swap to try new brands and shades that you would never consider before, and without spending a dime. After all, your unwanted ink is another writer’s treasure, so bring those dusty bottles along.

At the last meeting, I brought home three new pens. A newbie was given two or three pens to get him hooked, too.

Watch this space for more information, updates, freebies and whatnot. Please contact me with ideas, offers and questions.

...and said newbie will not, out of embarassment, admit to the number of pens and inks that already adorn his desk... ; )

Selling ink or just to trade?

Selling ink or just to trade?

Buy, sell, trade - your choice! I promote the trades simply because one or two bottles of ink are oftentimes not worth shipping to someone, but at a meeting like this, swapping or buying other's inks can make everyone happy. Pens, ephemera, whatever.

I still have a box of goodies from last time, though already picked over. There are some display racks and the like. Real cheap. Proceeds pay the FPN's electric bill.

Okay, pen fans. It's official. Jim Rouse, who administers the Philadelphia Pen Show, managed the Baltimore Bertram's Inkwell for many years, and is now with the venerable Sheaffer organization, will be giving a pen presentation at the Central Penn Pens meeting and swapmeet on Saturday, September 13th at 1:00PM at Cafe Fresco on Paxton Street, Harrisburg.

Further information appears in the next post! Cool, I can predict the future.

Here is a further update. Jim is going to bring some goodies. You know. Goodies! We like those.

He is going to bring some of the Sheaffer new old stock to show us will talk about the 28 year history of the Targas. He will discuss aspects of maintenance of all types of pens based on his long experience doing repairs most people have needed over the years. It'll be a great opportunity to have your questions answered by an experienced pro.

Here is Jim presenting another pen to a happy customer (me).

Bring all the inks you never use. We will have inks for trade that will make you grin.

Also, if anyone else wants to, I would be more than glad to bring some of my spare parts, and project pens, if anyone else wants to do likewise. Maybe someone can complete a pen or two. I got a buncha projects, and buncha parts, just need the right ones.
