This example of narrowed Uncial script was influenced by the writing of Byron Macdonald. It was written with a Rotring Artpen filled with Aurora black.Uncial variation

Simply fantastic, as usual. Thank you.

Very interesting, Caliken...The "a," and " l," especially, look like uncial, but the "d," "n," "c" and some of the other letters look like textura quadrata to me! smile.gif

Thank you, Ondina.

Ann :
It's taken from one of the Uncial variations by Byron Macdonald in his book " The Art of lettering with a broad pen" but I agree with you that it's pushing the limits of the Uncial style perhaps a little too far! However, IMO it's nice lettering to write, whatever we call it.

Wonderful as always! Very loose variation on Uncial, though. I concur on Ann's observations - it resembles textura.

Gorgeous but a bit shocking at first -- I'm so used to seeing Uncials glory in their roundy fatness (not the official term). I love seeing the variation, though. Thanks much for posting!

I like it! Firstly I've had the same impression of Doug, but I think it's opportune learn more about Byron Macdonald. This sample and another first (HERE) are very attractive.
Thank you Ken!

My copy of "The Art of Lettering with the Broad Pen" dates from 1981 but I see that there are several copies currently available from Amazon.

I've admired the work of American (from San Francisco) calligrapher Byron J Macdonald for many years, and this slim volume is well worth finding.

It's packed full of beautiful lettering, which is refreshingly different and all reproduced large enough for study. I find myself constantly returning to this book for inspiration.
