Been looking for a Big Red Duofold.... finally got one today on eBay....
It has the wrong nib (a Vacumatic nib), but that is not a big deal....
The description says only some brassing on the clip ball... and this is very common....
No chips, cracks, etc.... the engraving is starting to wear... but again if I were as old as this pen, I would be showing wear also...
I was looking for a writer, not a collector... so this is a good pen for me...

BUT, what really got me was that somewhere along the line someone had the top of the cap engraved with the Square and Compass... since I am a Freemason this is kind of special to me...
Best part is I got it for $125 including shipping and insurance....

Tom,

Nice score for a Big Red daily user. Have you inked it yet or is it in need of a new sac? What's the size of the nib. Looks like it could be a fine from the photos. The engraving on the cap end certainly sets it apart.

Nice Tom!

But... probably not a "wrong", per se, nib.

Awesome find! Enjoy your new pen!

Good get, Tom!

Wow Tom that is sweet! Is there any engraving that might indicate a lodge number so you could trace some history?

Nice pen Griz. I think the nib may be original, or a period replacement. It's got 10 feathers, which were ok for Duofolds in the 30s.

I was watching that same Duofold biggrin.gif

Glad it went to someone on the boards.

Thanks David... as I said I don't know much about Duofolds............. YET!!!!!

A 10 feather nib in a Duofold with the two band cap, so later production - it's a kosher nib. The 10 feather nib was found almost exclusively in Duofolds, while the Vacs had 9 feather nibs.
