Full Version: Liaison vs Rhapsody

I have found online shops that are still offering new WM Liaison or new WM Rhapsody FPs. Before committing I'd like advice from those of you who've used these pens. I can't separate these pens on looks so would like information about their balance, size and whether they are wet/dry writers.

To give you an idea of my pen preferences, I have a Carene and Expert II and although the Carene is a great writer I prefer the heft and classical look of the Expert. I also have 2 Hemispheres but, again, prefer the larger size of the Expert. I have never held or used a Liaison or a Rhapsody so would appreciate advice on which of these pens is more likely to match my preferences.

Do both pens have a brass barrel?

My first thought was that I would like to experience Rhapsody as a result of a Liaison wink.gif

I have an ebonite Waterman Liaison with a firm Fine nib; it is quite heavy for its size, and writes smoothly, being neither very 'wet' nor 'dry'.
It has a brass barrel and an interesting way of separating it from the section...you unscrew a knob at the end of the barrel!
A nice pen, but one I don't use very much...it's a bit too heavy to carry around for making notes in my 'journal', but too fine for my use as a daily letter-writer.
I am thinking I might sell it.

I have never seen a Rhapsody.

I've only just joined the forum so this may come a bit late: here goes. Bought a Rhapsody green and black yesterday at Penfriend in London after trying a Laureat and a Preface (afraid have no experience of the Liaison). All three wrote beautifully - medium nib in each case, just dipping in the shop. Bought the Rhapsody though the most expensive on the basis of gold rather than plated nib - so I was advised. Have put the pen straight to work and written several pages just with the supplied Florida Blue cartridges. Smooth, not dry nor especially wet; the paper will make some difference. I'm used to larger bodies such as Duofold Centennial and Pelikan M800 but found this very comfortable to hold and use. Personally I find almost all pens unbalanced if posted; this was no exception. If you post it clicks into place on the gold band near the top of the barrel.

Not sure I understand about the brass barrel. If you mean the sleeve inside the flecked outer material, I think it's brass - at least it's a gold colour like the outer metal work of the pen.

The Rhapsody is a beautiful pen. The outer barrels can vary a bit in darkness and brilliance, depending on how much green (in my case) fleck there is. It is supplied 'new' with a converter and a box of 8 cartridges.

Just to add to my post: was curious to see what the difference in appearance was between Liaison and Rhapsody. This site shows the pens (and several others) very clearly: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DG

Let us know what you decided!

I have/had both pens. The Rhapsody went out the door in relatively short order even though it was in a finish that I really liked, the Liaison is still in my collection. Of the two, I think that the Liaison is made better, one of Waterman's best. Not that the Rhapsody is a bad pen, I just like the look and feel of the Liaison better. The nib of course is quite firm because of the shape of the nib, but I don't have a problem with that.

I have both.
I say get the Rhapsody, as it is harder-to-find than Liaison. I do think the Rhapsody is better, simply because it is a LeMan 200, ad the LeMan line is my favourite. I have about 5 or 6 LeMan 200 (all different versions), so I know they are becoming harder to find because I am buying them all roflmho.gif , and that at sumgal prices (my last Rhapsody cost me 40 bucks; my black LeMan 200 cost 20)!

Please excuse my lack of knowledge (that's why I find the forum so useful) but what do you mean by the Rhapsody being a Le Man 200? Is the R a special version of the LM200 series, or just another name for the same range of pens? I saw the terms interchanged on another site today and thought it worthy of explanation.

I also am not sure to what extent the same name may persist but the pen undergo cosmetic alteration - shape, for instance.

Thanks for any clarification.

Rhapsody is a version of the 200, just different finishes as you have noted. Same size and shape.
