Does anyone have this finish on their Nakaya? If so, could you give a few words about how it compares to the other Nakaya 'glossy' finishes in terms of look and feel. In person does it seem as impressive as the 'glossy' finishes?

I have such a pen, with raden bands. It is different from the glossy finishes. The section feels very firm. I do not polish it when I use it, but I have a tendency to polish glossy urushi finishes once I am at the office. I am very pleased with this finish, as it is textured but still made of 'living' material. Ruud

Really nice individual styling with the Raden bands Ruud. I was going to go for a plain black one with with a two tone nib - minimalist. Thanks for sharing.

Mine is silver over brown. It is not what I would call an "impressive" finish. I find it soothing to look at, and to use. smile.gif

Thanks for your thoughts on your beautiful pen Leigh. I think, what it is, is that I am about to plunge and buy my first Japanese pen and it will be a Nakaya. But, I am torn between the glossy finishes and this new stone one. I think I will have to get one of each rolleyes.gif

The stone is an unusual finish, but it makes me cringe that it can be easily imitated in plastic. The aged tamenuri effect is much more unique to urushi. Still, I'm thinking that a combination might be kind of interesting--a stone cap and smooth body could make for an interesting look. I really like those abalone shell fragment bands on your Nakaya, Ruud. smile.gif

The stone finish is kinda primal - to me anyway - especially when I compare i to the clinical glossy urushi finishes. MYU, if you do get a half and half be sure to post some pics - does sound interesting.

That pen looks great, I'm new to pens in general but have been interested in japanese knives. So I kept looking at the other makers of pens till I can across this room in the forum. Who carries these pens? My local shop has a few nice japanese pens but not a large veriety tongue.gif and I don't recognize the name from what I've seen there.

Thankyou very much and DOH!!! Sorry the first time I get killed for spending $500+ on something... it's going to be a kitchen knife biggrin.gif (well sence I don't buy guns at the moment that is tongue.gif )... However I would list this in the under consideration dept smile.gif

Ishimei is an very interesting finish to me, and I post a few photos here for comparison. These rea done by Danitrio and the "stone" finish is not as rugged, it is more like "waxed stone". This is what I find interesting. Same technicques used, yet you get completely different results. This gives the buyers choices to go for more natural stone look or more polished stone look. One can see that "stone finish" can also be done with "colors" as well.

Kevin, thanks for sharing those photos of Ishimei urushi pens. Beautiful treatment. The up close image really helps convey the design. Is Ishimei part of the general offering by Danitrio, or custom made?

It is their regular offering... though their website really needs a good update soon.
