Thanks so much!
I am probably longing to replace my long lost 'perfect' Mont Blanc whose nib miraculously confirmed to my hand. Now I could not possibly afford any MB's !
I have my eye on a Retro 51 Scriptmaster 2 in Citron.
I just received a Levenger Golden Tortoise today that I love - it is so smooth writing - but it is a medium nib - and I think I would have preferred a fine point on this one.
Are the German points as variable as well?
I had no idea that there was such a wealth of pen places in Seattle ! I don't get to the mainland much from San Juan Island - but I do have to go to the Convention Center mnext month - hummmmmm - maybe so ! I doubt my friend would be terribly understandable about my pen fascination!

Hi All:
I have just joined. Seems like I used fountain pens for most of my mis-spent youth and am now returning to wanting to write only with fp's !
Problem is that I am shocked at how expensive and complex the business of FP's has become...or maybe it always has been and I just was not aware !
I am considering buying the new Retro 51 Scriptmaster 2 - but can;t seem to fins any reviews. I am also finding that what is medium in one nob is broad in another - and a Japanese fine point seems like an ultra fine to me. I am looking forward to learning a lot and finding the "perfect pen" for me ---- great group here it seems
Welcome.
If you are in the Seattle area, you may just want to drop by World Lux or the University Bookstore. Both have plenty of pens that they'll be happy to dip test for you, and Todd at World Lux is very knowledgeable and helpful.
You are very correct in your observations about Japanese nibs. Most Japanese nibs tend to run a full size smaller than their "Western" counterparts. A Pilot "F", for example, would typically be more comparable to a Pelikan XF.
If you have questions about a particular pen, check out the reviews section here, or ask in the appropriate forum. This board is full of knowledgeable people who love nothing more than talking about their pens!
Thanks for posting, and good luck finding your "perfect pen", though, if you are like many of us here, your "perfect pen" may well end up being a collection of twenty or thirty!
