I know that these nibs screw in and out, but what is the safest way to remove a nib to avoid any damage? Do you use a tool, or just grab it with a paper towel?

The way that Richard taught me was to use the inside of the first joint on your index finger (from the tip, not the palm) and cradle the feed with that. Then with your thumb on top, squeeze them together while you rotate it out.

He showed me this at the Toronto show 3 years ago, and I have not had any issues since. Of course, if the nib does slide a bit on the feed, one can usually just push it back gently.

Link to a quick video I just did of how to remove the nib from a Pelikan. Excuse my appearance, I was out in the shop welding most of the morning.

I would post the video directly if I could figure out how. smile.gif

You may need to soak it or stick the feed and nib in a ultrasonic cleaner for a little bit if its being really stubborn. Try not to stick the body in liquid, though, the j bars rust easily.
