Sorry, to bring up the topic of counterfeits again. Just wondered what other members made of this pen.

Yeah, it's on Ebay!

At first glance, it looks like a standard Solitaire 144 in Sterling silver.

Can't see much wrong with clip - except reading through the text of the listing it says France and not Germany. I seem to remember from earlier contributions that the only pens made in France, in recent times at least, were the Precious Stone solitaires.

The silver mark looks wrong to me - in particular the number 9. All 9s I have seen have a tail which curves round - did MB ever use a different font to show the silver content?

The worst part is the section. If that ring about the nib is genuine, it sure looks untidy.

Don't think I'll be bidding on this one.

It went for US $316.77.

I would like to hear the comments now.

Price and authenticity? hmm1.gif

I am not the expert here, but it looked authentic to me. I almost bid on it, but I am focusing on getting more WEs. The person has decent feedback, and haa 500 euros of paypal coverage. This would have been enough to make me feel comfortable...

Hi there,

The pictures show a real and authentic Montblanc Solitaire H.a.W.A.Mozart Sterling Silver fountain pen #1148 (not the Classique #1448). And, yes, this pen was made in the Montblanc factory in France in the former factory of Cartier near Paris.

Thanks Axel for the update. I'm always impressed by your vast knowledge on Montblanc pens.

My caution with this model was that I couldn't find it on www.fountainpen.de As I couldn't see a Mozart, I thought it must be a Classique.

I find it difficult to keep up with all the models Montblanc produce. Makes buying secondhand tricky especially with all the counterfeits.

Did they make any other precious metals at the former Cartier factory? A quick check of my sole p.m. shows it was made in Germany.

Regards, G.

Would anyone care to comment on the price it went for?

Was it a good deal?

Hi G...,

As far as I know for the writing instruments (but I'm not sure) all of the Montblanc Solitaire "H.a.W.A.Mozarts" and most of the "Ramses", "Nikolai", "Hematite" and "Citrine" were / are made in that factory. But the major intension to take over that factory would have been to find a place to produce the jewel collections.

But Max will know better.

Axel
