Hello All and Dr. D
I am wondering how you tell if you have an imperial Vacumatic when you don't have a cap? I have never seen one and would like to know what to look for. I have one green pearl laminate vacumatic which came with a unrelated gold cap. Jewelled blind cap and white gold and yellow gold 14K nib.

Hello Repairperson,

I believe that the Parker Imperial Vacumatics had threads that were located at end of the section next to the opening where the feed and the nib sit. I do not have a picture, but it should look like where the threads are located on a Waterman Safety Pen.

The barrels on Vac Imperials were either brown(amber) or black only, and yes,the section is threaded.

As stated previously, Imperials are known only in black and gold pearl laminated. The section threads are at the front of the section, and IMHO more comfortable than regular vac sections.

I have never heard of a vac imperial in green, but, what you might have is a desk pen which also has a different section. The desk pens do not have any threads on the section at all if I recall correctly. This might explain the absence of a cap. smile.gif

There will be little doubt. The hourglass section with threads at end-- which some claim was "borrowed" from Sheaffer Crest but which indeed appears on one other Vac which preceded the Crest-- is bit of a tip off smile.gif

Thanks to all of you knowledgable people. I have never seen one of these pens and I certainly don't have one. Now that you have pointed out the salient points. Thank you for the picture of the Imperial Vac. It shows what I needed to know. Something to look out for.
I am not good at letters so I don't know what ihmo stands for. I am finding pens thin on the ground here at present so am starting to muse over some of my previous purchases. My green vac has a Speedline filling unit and a nice nib but sadly no cap.

I am laughing. I am sure I will never get this lingo. It is so easy when someone writes it out in full. But the letters. Nothing comes to me when I look at them. Thanks again.

What?!?
Accuse a professional (Doctor, Teacher, Lawyer, Engineer[last is debatable]) of being humble? Whatever next?
The world's going to the dogs.
[wanders off muttering that things have never been the same since they chopped old 'Charlie the first's' head off....]
