Hi, I'm looking to buy a good, relatively inexpensive (<$50) fountain pen for day to day use. I've tried a bunch, like the Waterman Phileas and Hemisphere, but didn't really like them. I do like the Libelle Granite, which I have, and I had recently been using the Retro 51 Tornado, which I lost (in fact, if anyone knows where I can get a blue, medium nib, Retro 51 Tornado, that would be great). Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think the Lamy Safari (approx $25) or the Lamy All Star (approx $35) are GREAT fountain pens, especially for day to day use.

Check in the for sale section. A Pelikan m200 is up for sale, 50 including shipping. Pelikan is a wonderful daily pen.

Also check out some of the sale items at the Fountain Pen Hospital, they change frequently, and I bought a lovely Autumn Libelle in your price range.

And if you want a really inexpensive knock around pen, but rather small, see the listings, also in for sale here, for the Reform pens. They work like a charm.

Good luck with your search.

Hello,

I have the Lamy Safari, and after a lot of work on very, very fine grade sandpaper, the nib is finally usable. From the factory, it was so bad, it would rip the paper when trying to write. I also have a Retro 51 Tornado fountain pen. It is by far, my favorite everyday pen. I love it. The only doenside, is that it is too short for a converter. You have to use ink cartridges. Not a problem for me, but it might be for someone else.

Good Luck,
Dan

isellpens.com has the Toranados on sale.

I'm newbie here, but I'm impressed with Hero 616, Chinese Parker 51 'clone'
I think it's called.
And that's a $10 retail pen, cheaper if you buy 10 pack.

My best pen is $50 Pelikan M200 F.
Reform 1745 mentioned is close runner-up, similar to Pelikan 100 I understand.

Another $10 pen that is special is Pilot 78G, finest line I have.

Rotring Core is less than $25, nice writer and best of mine for 'beater'
to clip in pants pocket.
RLTodd
<$50

Pelikano, Pelikan Future, Lamy Safari, assorted Chinese pens such as at isellpens.com, Rotring Core if you can find one as they have been discontinued for some time, the 78G if you find one, some of the Reforms if you can find them as they have been discontinued a long time..........

Best of luck........

Good morning, GoutamJois,

I know they are not Tornados, but the FP Review Database includes a couple of Double Eights
that you may want to read while considering the Retro 51 brand.
