Anyone seen one like this? I have seen 2 or 3 before and they were all black. It has a number stamped on the barrel leading me to wonder if design models were stamped that way for ID in review. PS I guess I should say that the oddity is two bands, unknown on other dollar pens.

Can you see inside the body, signs of a repair? Maybe someone grafted a new lower section on to make it look like that?
EventHorizon
WOW, new one to me. I'm kind of wondering the same as Firefyter. Does the cap look "whole"?
LBpens
This is definitely a factory job. The cap is normal in every way and undamaged. The number on the barrel is also very curious on an odd pen. Who else would put a number there but Esterbrook? Why else but to denote a specific pen for some reason. The other 2 I have seen with 2 bands were photos and I don't know if they had numbers and don't know where those pens are now, but I'm betting they do.
FarmBoy
Can we get a picture of the numbers and a close up of the cap?

Are the dimensions normal or extended?

Thanks,

Todd

Here are 2 more pics. The cap dimensions are identical. The lower band on the black pen is very slightly lower than the band on the blue pen.

Well, I am now leaning towards a prototype or "design model" as stated above. I have never seen Esterbrook put a number on their pens. As for the other two you have seen, were they in the same store or area?. Jeez, where is Brian when you need him the most.

Brian knows this pen exists. I emailed him about a fair selling price but haven't heard back. I believe the other was also black. I don't remember if it had a number. Maybe the number is something else but what makes sense? I suppose a company might buy pens and put a number on them but what would they be doing with obviously unusual pen design?

That's pretty unusual. The cap looks different from the regular factory job in that it doesn't appear tapered. Since the edge of the cap isn't tapered, I'd think the edge would be thicker (it looks it) and more durable, and crack less often. So you wouldn't need a second band or ring, really, unless it is just for ornament. Very cool item, though.

Edit: I dunno about my taper point. In the second comparison shot, the black cap seems less tapered, but maybe not in the first. Ah well.

At the cap lip the black pen is thicker, I noticed that. But I don't have other dollar pens to make a comparision.
