So if you go to a shop to buy a pen with a black body whould you choose the one with gold/gold plated trim or the one with white/silver trim ?
I was always a big fan of black with yellow trim to I chose option 1.

I think you need an "I like both trim colours equally" option

That would defy the whole point of choosing one of the 2.

I dislike gold trim on any pen, but I particularly dislike it on black pens. For some reason, it makes any black pen look cheap and gaudy to me.

In the case of a black pen, I like both equally. It would simply come down to the style of the pen as to which I preferred.
I have 2 black P51's. One with a RG cap & one with a Sterling Silver cap. I cannot use looks to determine which I prefer. I like them both equally based on their on looks. On the writing ability, I prefer the silver cap, but that's down to it having a P61 nib.

Richard.

Silver trim for me, but for MBs it has to be gold. That's their signature and the silver trim is just lacking the special MB look.

I prefer white or silver trim on a black pen. I like the nib to be two-toned gold, though.

Prefer gold.
As I have said before, silver looks cheap.

Gold in general except for the following pens which I prefer in white: Sailor Professional Gear, Omas Paragon and Aurora Talentum.
Only one I would consider either way is the Paragon which is beautiful in both Gold and Silver trim.

To me, it's exactly the opposite. I think gold looks cheap and almost always prefer silver. I do like the look of two-toned nibs, though.

I think two tone nibs look tacky.
It's rather like a black classic car with white sidewalls on the tyres, or two tone brogues. Welcome to the world of the Spiv. The whole thing is tasteless and tacky in a nouveau-riche way. Very 'Posh & Becks', and classifies the owner as having the cultural capital of the lower middle class/ working class regardless of their actual wealth.
(OK, who else can I offend?... Politely, of course.

)

I always choose gold trim over silver trim when given the choice. I'm disappointed that so many new pens seem to come only with silver trim. I'm pleased to see companies like Visconti finally offering gold trim versions of some of its standards (Opera Master, Van Gogh). I wish Stipula would issue another version of the Etruria with gold trim.

Black and silver for me. Gold trims look cheap in my opinion. The only time that I like gold trim is on my brown 823. The brown/black combination just knocked my socks off. And even MB's. I don't own any with silver trim, but a 149 with silver trim would be sweet.

I voted silver but I'm not fundamentalist about this, I'd actually like to have both (but maybe over a different main color too, e.g. for the Pelikan Souverans range).

Black with gold as in a 149 or S T Dupont orpheo! Elegant.......

I didn't see an option for "both" so I didn't vote.
In classic style pens like the Mont Blanc 149 or the Pelikans I like gold trim. For more modern style pens like the Lamy 2000 , Pilots, etc I like the white trim.
