I recently got a Morriset inkwell here at FPn and love the pen so much I bought another pen today. I was also able to get extra nibs from a FPn member. Thanks to both of these members.

I'm interested in a bakelite inkwell to hold this new pen.

Does anyone have one they aren't using? biggrin.gif

I was able to get exactly what I was looking for and at a reasonable cost.

Many thanks.

I have a number of vintage morriset inkwells, many with their original pens, in my antique shop - Inktiques - see my picture I use here for a sampling.
thanks,

Zoe-

I just got one of these from my mom that had never been used, complete with medium nib and ink. It works pretty well!

What kind of ink are you using in yours?
Zoe
Ted, I've been using Dupont Blue and Levenger's Smokey. I was using the Levenger's because it is the exact same size bottle as the original Morriset.

And FYI, I have some extra nibs if you are interested. I bought some from a FPn member.

Does yours have the little funnel and two-hole cover for the bottle, Ted?

It has the bottle with the two holes, which was never opened and still full of ink! It's a medium nib, which was never used (the well is black, just like yours, but the pen has a brass accent on the bottom half of the nib holder). It didn't include the funnel, though--must've fallen out at some point.

The original ink is very wet, and dries to a sort of old-timey, blue-gray hue. Even though it's wet, it doesn't bleed through as much as the Reform 1745's I just got from JJ. I'm using Waterman Black with those, and with my Lamy Al-Stars, which, with the Morriset, is the extent of my collection so far. smile.gif

I'm definitely interested in nibs, if you can spare one or two, and I found a place that sells the fine for $5 and stubs for $10.

It's funny, because I've known that my mom had this for a couple of years, and was even going to take it home with me about a year ago, but wasn't really into pens then. Actually, I was a little intimidated by it! Sunday, I was reading up on another post about Shelby Foote and his dip pens, then saw some Eversharp dip-less, then finally got this. It may not hold as much as either of those, but I haven't written anything long enough to outlast one dip on it yet! I'll see if I can upload some pics later.

Do other inks work (like the Levenger) even without the two-hole cap?

Love your blog, by the way!

I find this most exciting--having the set with the original ink and using it. It came with Morriset brand ink, I believe, as a set, in toto, with that now missing tiny funnel. Thus far, I've only seen two complete sets on the 'bay, one in Canada and just recently one on the US ebay.

I have one or two fine nibs, and a small handful of mediums. I'd be interested in knowing how wide the stub nibs are and if they are much wider than the mediums, I'd be up for a fair trade. biggrin.gif

In my limited experience, the pen itself takes in quite a bit of ink and I was able to write several pages with it before it run out.

The nibs are also quite easy to clean so switching inks is not much of a problem.

As far as ink is concerned, when I first got the set, I used the pen for testing incoming ink, and all of the inks reacted well. However, the difference between testing with a dip pen and a normative fountain pen appears vastly different and I found it didn't act as a good control for colour.

Congratulations, Ted, a well found gift from your mother and one to treasure I think. thumbup.gif

And it is nice to hear someone reads my rambling.

This seller says that the stub is about .9mm, so the line must be huge:
