So having a number of nibs for my J, I have come to the conclusion that I am in need of something to safely and easily store them in. What works for you?

Jacob,

I store mine in an old store display. Great ephemera if you can find one. I store my parts and used nibs in a plastic organizer box, I got mine at sears P/N 00962313000. It has 13 little compartments of different sizes and they cost about 4 dollars.

I always recommend a good cleaning and to make sure they are completely dry before you pack them up. Also plenty of room in there to store other misc things that go with Esterbrooks.

I store my pen parts (including nibs) in one of those small parts cabinets you can buy at Sears or hardware stores, the type usually used for storing screws, washers, etc.

Baby food jar. Cleaned out of course. Ooh. A vintage ink bottle would be nice too. Especially one with a wider opening, say Skrip?

Now this is thinking out of the box. I like it. I'd go for a vintage Quink bottle with the rippled side-sort of artistic.

I have a Quink bottle on my window sill at the kitchen sink. Has a green zinnia in it. Precious.

I have a couple in the plastic tubes that 35mm film comes in but the vintage ink bottle idea is better!!

Get an altoids can, cut a piece of foam that will fit inside of it, then make a few slits in in while you are at it.
Put the foam in the tin, and the nibs in the slits.

A mint container with a stamped and painted golf scene on the cover holds my small collection of nibs. So far I have only lined it with a cloth but I like the foam idea. Cutting foam neatly has been a problem with my attempts at using it for custom packing.

Hi,

You can also use ink exchange vials that are fitted with the appropriate amount of bubble wrap for a secure and rattle-proof fit. I can also get you the appropiately padded ones if you don't want to mess with packing them yourself. I use these in my shop since they provide a secure, mailable packing for nibs. They are translucent, and they allow me to place the nib in standardized packing for organization and storage.
