I've been writing in the Spencerian style, but after looking at some sample writings, I would like to start learning the Copperplate script.

There are a lot of books but I don't know which one to choose. Also, since Copperplate is one of the most popular scripts in the UK some books published there simply have the word "calligraphy" in their titles without specifying they were teaching the Copperplate script. I've done a bit of searching, and the book that seems to come up a lot is "Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy" by Eleanor Winters.

Please give me some suggestions.

(I'm sorry if someone else has posted this question before. I've searched the forum and I get a lot of links for learning Copperplate but very few books.)

Thank you.

FieryPhoenix,

Over the past years, I believe that I've seen or bought every instruction book on the subject of Copperplate script and whilst they range from mediocre to very good, there is one book which stands head and shoulders above the others - "Copperplate Calligraphy" by Dick Jackson.

I taught myself Copperplate script, many years ago, using this book only. IMO the exemplars and method of instruction are excellent and I can thoroughly recommend it. Although it is out of print at the moment, I see that there are 5 copies available through Amazon from £11.61.

No affiliation etc.
