I am thinking about purchasing an OMAS 1930. It seems that it has the same measurements as the Pelikan 400. But does the nib live up the famous reputation that OMAS is known for?

To me the 1930 (555/F size) is a tiny pen; especially girth of the gripping section and nib are tiny. Even the Milord of the 1990's production (556/F) is somewhere inbetween the outer dimenstions of the M400 and M600 I think you would be much more happy with the Milord except you are looking for a really small pen (Pelikan M300, Montbalanc Chopin,...).

I don't own a 1930 so I really cannot comment on the nibs performance on a long term basis but nibs on the small round Ogiva pens ("my first Omas", 555/S), the Milord and the Tokyo are usually smooth nibs which have or can be adjusted to very good ink flow. I found them rather rigid compared to some of the larger Omas nibs.

Cheers

My wife has a number of fountain pens, including 2 Pelikan 400s, an Omas 1930 and an Omas Dama celluloid.

If I remember, the 1930 is smaller than the 400, but all fit her hand well.

The 1930 was purchased new around 2 years ago. It's fine nib is a delight and the pen is her favorite.

The Dama was purchased used almost a year ago. While beautiful, its performance (both ink flow and nib feel) has not been so good despite adjustment from a nib meister.

Craig
