Hi,

I had 2 limited editions that needed attention. First, the piston on my Copenicus was stiff and eventually broke, and the service centre told me that it had to go to Germany for replacement of piston. It was fixed and sent back. Second, the piston on my Christie was stiff. Fearing that the same thing would happen, I went to the service centre, where I was told that it may have to go to Germany too. I asked to speak to the pen technician directly. He agreed with me that it wasn't a problem to be fixed, and it just needed lubrication. He did that while I was served coffee and been showed the 2009 pen catalogue (there are some new and interesting pens). Then left happy that I did not have to part with my pen for a long period of time.

My Kafka was leaking, the local MB servise fixed it perfectly without any charge.

it depends on what is the problem of the pen. If it is skipping or parts needs to be change than it is going back to germany.

The MB team in Hamburg is great with minor work like lubricating pistons, changing nibs and setting feeds right. It has been my experience that on more serious repairs like a broken section (maybe not easy to separate from the body) they will chicken out, make up some cheap excuse like they have found some signs of unauthorised repairs (unexistant traces of glue is a classic) and are therefore forbidden to touch the pen. You can only rely on them so much...

I suspect that service on non-LE pens is a lot more reliable and that knowing, meeting with or talking in person to one of the repair service people in Hamburg will help with more serious LE repairs.

I agree with you. As far as I am concern when you have a MB limited edition pen and you want to remove some scrutches from it they do not interested. I think it is their policy not to restore completely their limited editions. Too pity...

My personal experience with a stateside repair some years ago, (I believe at the time I shipped the pen to Kohinoor, in New Jersey), with a silver Classique that had broken in two in my briefcase, was unique. They replaced everything except for the cap. Polished the pen. Charged nothing, (not even for shipping), and wished me a Merry Christmas on the enclosed invoice. It was right there that I became a Mont Blanc fan.
