Full Version: Is this a fake Sonnet on USA Fleabay?
The Fountain Pen Network > Brand Focus > The Parker Forum

(Disclaimer; no, I'm not bidding on this, I don't really want a Cisele Sonnet (yet)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Parker-Sonnet-cisele-f...1QQcmdZViewItem

-Pen is supposed to be brand new. Am I imagining that I can see steel under the gold plating on the nib
that shouldn't be gold plated? Aren't all gold nibbed Sonnet nibs kt marked?

-Isn't the "Parker" on the nib an example from the fake articles of shallow, misshappen engraving?

-Does the "Parker Made in France" band on the cap look wrngh?

-Not to mention, "brand new but no original box"

Just curious.

What say yall?

There is also a "shadow" in the nib: the plating seems darker at the bottom of the nib... But Ciseles aren't supposed to be plated anyway.

I'd call it a fake. The nib looks suspicious to me.

Same here. For a "new pen" it looks a bit like it's been around the block a few times. I can see a bit of wear on the gold trim and I also see a color difference in the nib near the bottom.

"Over the last 16 years We have earned a reputation for quality, selection, value and service that has been the foundation for long-standing relationships with our customers"

Seems a shame to throw it all away then.

Definitely a fake. The nib markings are completely wrong, with it just marked "Parker". The lettering looks like it was done with a Dremel.

There appears to be yet another listing for the same type fake.

At least it's just listed as a "chrome and gold" Sonnet instead of a Cisele. It doesn't have near the
pics this listing does so you can't really tell alot but it DOES have the same flakey looking printed
(not engraved) silver (not gold) ID band on the cap.

This one doesn't even appear to rise to the same levels as the other fakes shown in the two articles
on Sonnet fakes. At least they made somewhat of an attempt to better copy the correct nib and
cap band.

This seller has been around a long time and is carrying some very nice pens with expected prices. His feedback is good and has sold many pens. No indicators of a Sonnet scammer, but with that said he could be selling it believing it to be the real deal.

Perry, I think you are 100% correct. I wrote a calm respectful message to the seller
and he replied in kind, thankful for the information and pulled the item. That's nice
since that bidder who had bid $100 would have been pretty disappointed in the end
with his "win" had he prevailed.
