I have been a bit of a Pilot snob since I started buying recently and deservedly so - they are excellent pens.

Anyway, I took a punt on eBay on a Sailor and won much to my surprise. $158 for a full size 1911 with the Naginata-Togi nib... I got it today and inked it with the only ink I had on my desk - Namiki Blue - and I haven't been able to put it down!

What a wonderful nib & what great build quality. The thing just oozes class.

I am seriously impressed with the fit and function of this pen. Everything fits together perfectly and it offers just the right resistance to let you know when to stop screwing the cap back on or the section into the barrel.

The nib is also a revalation to me. The wet line it puts down, the smoothness, the variation - it's a really impressive nib in a really impressive pen.

Of course, I'll bleat about the crappy converter... it's much too small but I may seriously consider getting cartidges to use with this baby as it's too good not to use.

This may be my first Sailor but it most certainly will not be my last!!!

I've been intrigued by these for quite a while.
Is there anway you can post pictures of the pen, AND the nib, along with a sample of the writing, just to show what makes these so special?

I recently purchased the exact same pen and nib (although I paid a little bit more crybaby.gif ). I already had a Sailor 1911 mid size in a fine nib and wanted the larger pen and one of the specialty nibs. I was quite surprised at how much larger the Naginata nibs run compared to the standard nibs.

Mine has taken a little getting used to since I prefer a bit thinner line. I have to write with the pen in the more upright position to get the thinner line, but I like being able to lay down a broad line by positioning the pen at a less steep angle.

I find that not many inks agree with my Naginata Togi nib. I get too much ink put down except from my inks that I find to be among the drier inks. It's also very paper sensitive. If I use cheap paper, it looks terrible. So far, I like Noodler's Golden Brown and Private Reserve Copper Burst. Terrible inks were Private Reserve Ebony Green and Noodler's Lexinton Gray.

The pen feels great to write with and the nib is substantial. I like the pen alot -- although I might prefer a fine next time.

I'm curious to whether you have had a similar impression of the pen.

I just got one of these with an M naginatatogi nib. It's a wonderfully smooth nib that writes at many angles. But it does lay down quite a broad line, so I'm getting used to using it at a high angle. I think I'd prefer the M-F, so maybe I'll try to find someone to swap with at some point. It's strange, and a bit frustrating, that Sailor doesn't label these nibs in a way that's consistent with their other nibs.

Congratulations on your new pen.

I have the Realo with a two-tone Naginata Togi Medium nib and it is a dream to write with.

Some pictures. Excuse my poor photography - my white balance is totally out...

I have one of these in the Medium nib. I found it likes Visconti Ink. Some of the others caused some skipping on the downstroke; probably because of my poor writing style. The Visconti blue works great.

Anyone care to trade thier Naginata Togi MF for my M nib only?
