Yes, the time had to come in which the Zoo had to grow... some swallows, peacocks... yes, and now a Leopard too lticaptd.gif

The pen is very unusual and not at all traditional Maki-e work. I wanted something different and do not like geometric designs. This time rhe work is done by maki-e artist signeing as "Shunpei" and with his red seal as seen on the last photograph. It is in Takumi size and fitted with my beloved soft EF nib. This design has to be liked or disliked, it does not admit mid terms... I liked it and I have it now in use. The pattern is based on the Leopard's skin and as can be seen it varies and is different as you turn it around. Back, belly and sides are obvious and give this pen a nice variation to play with...
Enjoy the pictures... I'll enjoy the pen... roflmho.gif

Wow, I love the way the pattern changes to reflect the top and bottom of the animal. A lovely pen!

Thanks for your input.
Yes the effect of the pattern changing around the pen is quite well done. The pen is in unusual urushi colours and the use of a very fine sprinkled powder in a mixture of silver and gold colours, just in a very fair ammount, gives the rest of life to its apperance. Kevin described as being with a bold apperance... hummmm.... let me think... well it depends upon which kind of decoration you compare it to. If compared to the pure geometric designs... this would be half-way between nature and geometry... wouldn't be? tongue.gif

Unusual pattern indeed! I like its boldness, and its colors. Always enjoy your photos, Jopen, what camera and lens you used?

Thanks for your comment...
I used a Nikon D200 fitted with a 18-200 for the first four and a 105 micro for the last three.

Beautiful photos as usual. Are you sure you are not a pro photographer and only play doc part time :-)

Glad you like the pen.

Best,

Kevin
