Hi - hoping you can offer some input

Offered a Parker 61 today by a market trader I know - English made - rolled gold cap, black barrel - late model with aeromatic style filler replacing nasty teflon thinggy - excellent condition.

The interesting aspect about this pen was that it was stamped on the barrel with the Rolls Royce name & badge. Presumably a gift given to potential/actual customers of the prestigious car.

Have any of you seen another? What would be a fair offer for it?

many thanks

In my experience, company branding of pens really took off in the 1980s. Earlier examples exist but are less common.

The pen which you were offered sounds as though it probably dates from the 1970s. I can't recall seeing anything similar on this particular model. It may well have been offered as a gift to new owners of Rolls Royce or, alternatively, to long serving/senior members of RR staff, perhaps those that have achieved a particular sales target?

I find placing a value is difficult - perhaps because such pens are of little interest to me. I have seen pens stamped with the Rolex branding achieve pretty high prices on Ebay. It may be an item which would be of more interest to collectors of Rolls Royce memorabelia especially if you could establish it's history.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'd expect it to fetch a premium over a standard P61. The RR tag always has a bit of a cachet to it.

In good nick, not on E-bay, a P61 custom is in the region of £50-£60. Possibly add £20 - £30 for the RR tag, and a bit more (+£10?) if there's some paperwork giving a provenance. So maybe up to £100 tops.

While I love P61's, I have to confess I wouldn't pay that myself.

I confess I'm surprised the RR name is still worth that much extra?

obviously a bit more than I thought

If it had been a 51 I'd have bought it but dont like those skinny 61's

I'll tell him to ebay it n let the market decide

Thanks again

!!!
I always feel the P51 needs to go on a diet, it's a bit fat.

Interesting - I would have thought that any kind of engraving lowers the value of a pen, unless a prospective buyer has some personal connection, in the case of a company engraving; or in the case of a monogram, the initials happen to be the same as theirs, or someone they know.

Parker 61s generally do surprisingly well on eBay UK, if they're in nice condition.

Generally I agree.

However, who is embarrassed by a 'Rolls Royce' connection? Few, if any, particularly if documented.

IIRC the RR badge is more likely to come from the Aero Engine Division than the cars. There was lots of this kind of RR badged stuff given away at Air Shows and Military exhibitions than by the car maker. Therefore it won't be that rare, a friend used to work for BAE at Filton where they built a lot of the Concorde and she used to order pens and pen sets by the thousand for the big air shows like Farnborough and Paris. OK so they won't all be the higher end stuff, but reasonable quality all the same.

Or could have been a company pen, meant not to walk off the lot.

Car Company pens are fun.
