Full Version: PFM Point holder gasket

I recently received a PFM I that needed restoration and so I:

-Replaced the sac with a #16 although it required a 17.5 or something
-Replaced the barrel end O-ring

But the point holder gasket was a little tricky. I couldn't get the section to unscrew. Also, I don't have any of the gaskets from pendemonium or tryphon right now. I do have plenty of Vac-Fil seal gaskets left over from my failed attempts at repairing those devils.

I read that Julikko used a snorkel gasket to repair a vac-fil so why not the other way around? I just stuck a greased up one over the snorkel tube and it actually makes a pretty good seal. No water getting in the barrel. The tube doesn't stick out as far as it could but it's no biggie for me. So is that a good temporary solution or did I do something disasterous?

I think you're OK.

But... I have over a dozen PFMs. Not once have I had to replace the point-holder gasket; all my pens fill just fine.

I do have plenty of gaskets and a tool to do the job, but I haven't needed to use them yet. You need to apply heat to the section to do it. Be careful--the plastic used in PFMs is brittle. That's why I don't replace anything I don't have to.

Why not see if your pen works fine without sticking a Snorkel gasket onto it?

Good luck,
Don

Thanks for your reply Don. I applied some heat but it wasn't budging and I wanted to be cautious. I also didn't have any fuel line hose to get a good grip around the threads.

The gasket wasn't holding up well without the addition. If I dip the nib into water and push down on the plunger, it'll draw some water into the barrel. Not much, but enough to get me worried. I don't usually dip the nib into the ink when filling, but I just wanted to be safe.
