Full Version: Quick Fake Sonnet check

I was just following this thread: Parker Sonnets and Noodlers, and thence to this thread: Parker Sonnet hole in cap. This inspired me to check both my genuine (JML - happy customer) and fake Sonnets' caps (it was JML's comment about the rivet holding the cap inner in place).

On the genuine Sonnets, the cap's inner is indeed blind-riveted. On the fakes, the inner is held in place by a nut and bolt!

So, if you have a Sonnet you are a bit suss about, check out the cap.

Maybe this isn't news to anyone, but just in case ...

Didn't help me though: I have another 'Sonnet' which I'm about 90% sure is fake but cannot prove it one way or another (Another fake Sonnet?). The cap inner is riveted on that one too.

Have fun at all times!

There were a couple good articles mentioned and linked to (somewhere) in those 13 pages of Sonnet posts I went
through today and yesterday about spotting fakes.

The clues that stuck in my mind, (I didn't recall the blind rivet one) were;

-The "Parker" not being centered under the clip
-The mismatch of nibs to what should be on them
-The deeper engraving on the real Park nibs
-Possibly messed up scripting on the nib
-If all else fails, looking for or scratching the nib to see if its just plated and not real gold.
