I just got one of those nylon 40-pen cases from Pendemonium (only mentioning so you can check to see what they look like if you don't know).

I have a couple questions: the bands seem SO TIGHT. Will they hurt the barrels of my pens? Also, is this kind of pen case safe for long-term storage?

I have always heard that the best way to store inked pens is in an upright position. However, the best way to put the pens in the case, it *seems*, is right side up on the top row and upside down on the bottom row. So...if I were thinking of storing the case in any way other than flat, it would be bad for the upside-down pens.

Argh, I guess these are stupid questions, but I've never owned one of these types of pen cases before. I have been using pen wraps, for the most part, up 'til now.

Any and all advice would be welcome!

Thanks.

Mousie

They can hurt some pens, especially ebonite or celluloid. I store my pens horizontally for the most part. So far, no ill effects.

::thinking:: What is the Pelikan Honey made of? I do NOT have it in this case at present.

Thanks for replying. :-)

Resin. Don't know about how resin holds up.

I do not think that elastic bands in a pen case will warp a pen... no matter how tight.

I wasn't happy with how tourniquet-tight the bands were on my currently-inked pens. I was kinda worried about my Laban Celebration. So I moved my ole Sheaffer No-Nonsense pens into the case and put all my other pens (inked and not-currently-inked) into pen wraps. I don't take them anywhere but around the house, so I don't need heavy-duty protection for them (*knock on wood!*). The pens are much easier to get to/slide out when I'm writing in lots of colours in my journal. :-)

Well, that was a $50 lesson in futility. :-/ Oh well!

Thanks for your advice!

I store pens in cardboard pen boxes and slotted trays.

Mousie, Pendemonium will take back the pen holder. check out their "no quibble" guarantee on their website.

Hi,

Would somebody like Pendemonium sell a case that could damage pens. I have never used them, but they are a specialist pen seller so I would guess the cases are safe for most pens.

Okay, I'll give them a call when someone's available.

Thanks! :-)

Slotted pen trays and various cases. I have, uhh, a lot. I also have a Visconti 24-pen case.

Far left: 7-pen case for my best pens (that fit; the case is short, but it does fit wide pens). Mostly celluloid pens inside.
Left rear: Levenger 16 (?) pen case that holds only narrow pens, so I keep mostly vintage and short pens in it.
Center: cigar case that's been converted with a slotter tray. All resin pens.
Right: Aurora pen case that's good for medium to narrow pens. Holds most of my celluloid pens and some better resin pens.

One side of my Visconti pen case holds ebonite pens, the other holds resin pens.

Wow, that's just beautiful! So the Visconti case is your take-with-you case and the rest are long-term storage?

I may be a pen fiend, but I rarely have the need to carry 24 at once!

I normally carry 1, 2, or 3-pen cases (sometimes several of them). So right now the Visconti case is long-term only because I haven't gotten started re-finishing the neat boxes my mother got me a couple of weeks ago.

Wow. :-) I'm soooo at the low-end of the scale on pen collecting. I think it's more accumulating in my case.

I carry three pens usually: my brother's Parker "51" (it will always be his--I am keeping it for him/in memory of him) and two others. I have one of those Healthy Back Bags that I use as a purse. It has pen slots and stays upright. I do need to transport all my inked pens from room to room. I guess I didn't really need a heavy-duty case for that. :-P Pen wraps work fine.
