I have a Binderized M800 medium from about seven years ago, and while I have bought many other high-end models and makes since then, nothing in my opinion touches that pen in terms of smoothness, flow, and expressiveness.
But the pen is a little big for my hand to be honest.
How does the M600 medium compare in flow, etc.?

Hello,
I am sure that if you buy your M600 from Richard Binder again and let him know haw exactly it should write (or even send him your M800 so he can approximate the M600 as closely as possible) he will do everything to accommodate your wishes. If you buy it "just somewhere" you can never know how your pen will write beforehand - that is unless you buy it in a brick and mortar shop where they are willing to let people try several pens so that they can find the one that suits them...
Still if you want a reliable pen that will write as you want buy it biderized

If an M-800 is too large for your hand, I think an M-600 is a great option. I can only second Zed's suggestion. It is what I would do.

Please be aware that the M600 is quite a different pen. The m600 is much lighter in weight, not only because of its size but also given the fact that the m800 piston has brass elements in it that the m600 does not have. In other words: the m600 is not merely a smaller m800.

The only way to achieve something reproducible here is to buy an M 600 where you can buy an M600 (har har) and /or an M 800 at the same time.
Try out different nibs and be aware that they may all be different.
If worst comes to worst -- now let's say you want an M600, whatever the nib -- then buy same and send it to Richard: He will heal accordingly!
Salut!
Mike
PS: If in doubt, ask anybody else!!!

Hi,
I'm considering adding a M805 to my collection which includes a M600 with custom stub ground nib.
Are the nibs interchangeable between these pens?
Thanks in advance.

uhm, they're certainly NOT interchangeable on mine (i have an M800 and an M650). the M6xx nib is decidedly smaller than that on the M8xx, as is the size and diameter of their caps. you'd have both mechanical and aesthetic problems swapping the two

Yes, there's the aesthetic aspect as well--thanks for pointing that out. May mean another visit to the grind shop-----and, increased cost of this aquisition!

You might want to check out the nib compatibilty chart for Pelikan pens at Richard Binder's
site.

Does anyone have a M400 and M600? I love my M400 and don't find it too small to use but think I would like a bigger pen.
I had my mind set on a M600 but I just realised a few minutes ago that the M600 is hardly any bigger than the M400.
It has been helpful reading this post in order to know what the difference between the M600 and M800 is, I now just need to know what it is like between the M400 and M600!
At the moment my two largest pens are a Parker "51" and Lamy Al-Star. Both of which I love the size and feeling of. (Just in case this helps!)

I think I have answered my question! Sounds like the M600 will be better for me than the M800. Now I just need to choose the colour...

L to R: M300, M350, M400 White Honey x2, M400 Brown Tortoise Kaufhof, M450, M650 (same size as the M600), M800 x3. Sorry for the crummy photo. Unfortunately my Pelikan box could not fit my second M450 that's currently in rotation, my M600 (currently MIA) and my M1000 (which is too big for the box anyway!). The length of each slot is 14.2cm (fits the 14cm M800 perfectly).
There is a small, but noticeable difference when compared, in weight between the M400 and M600. The size difference is more noticeable, in particular barrel diameter.

I wrote with a 400 for a long time and loved it even though it was a little short for my liking (I don't post my pens). I bought a Pelikan Grand Place 600 and was really pleased with the length though the weight didn't seem to be very different. Recently I obtained a 625 (sapphire and sterling) which is very hefty! I obtained an 800 and fell in love with the girth weight and balance. I don't own but have tried a 1000 and it is just too big for my liking. I have several Binder 250 custom nibs and they will fit in a 200, 400 and 600 size pen. I currently have a Binder crisp italic in my 600 Grand Place and an ItaliFine in my Translucent Blue 200.

Thank you very much feiye! That photo is awesome. It really shows the size difference between the M400 and M600 nicely! I thin the M600 is the pen for me.
pakmanpony, I think if the M600 is not to short/light but could be heavier I will then add a M800 to my collection too!

I agree with the other poster that the M600 is a much lighter pen than the M800 and of very different character. I've got an M800 and an M640 Niagara Falls and they're actually very close in weight, but the NF uses the M600 nib, is shorter by 3/16", and the nib is about 1/8" shorter from the front of the section. They act very much alike, surprisingly.
I've had all the other Sovereign models (no metal caps) and those two are very close. But if you don't like the NF, Sahara, Polar Lights or their price, then that's not an option.

Lurcho, if at all possible, your best bet is to visit a place that has a 600 and see what you think in person.

For those who'd like something smaller than the M800 but find that the M600 is too light for them, how about an M700?
The M600 is about 1 cm shorter but already weighs 11.8 g less than an M800.
The M700 is only a tick shorter than the M600 but it weighs only 5.2 g less than an M800. That is, the M700 weighs 6.6 g more than an M600.
