Hi, I am new to this site and to fountain pens as well. I am turning pens as a hobby and have made a few Fountain pens from kits. This started the interest going and at the craft market the other day I saw a few old fountain pens. I was thinking of buying the pens to use the parts to try and make my own pen, but after I have read some of the threads on restoration (here and on google), I am bitten by the restoration bug

So bear with me, as I have a lot (and I mean LOT) to learn, and being here in South Africa there is not many people to learn from. English are not my first language, so if things came out crooked, apologies (Hopefully the spell checker will help with the spelling, but not syntax)

Like I said, pen turning and wood turning are my hobbies. My day job is IT (Analyst, DBA, software developer and maintenance).

I don't recall other FPN members from your country so if you can share any information about any fountain pens made locally that would be very nice to read!

There is lots to learn here and folks are very helpful about answering questions. In addition, if you want to get involved in Postcard Swaps or snail mailing there are threads that cover that as well.

Don't worry about your English. There are some "native" English speakers who don't always get the grammar and spelling right either.
