Can anyone give me some help on identifying one or both of these Waterman. The blue has been with me for quite some time; the red I believe I bought about 4 years ago.

This photo might be cleaner and easier to see:

The blue pen is a Waterman Gentleman - great pen - highly collectable - produced in the 1980s

I think the red one is a Lady Charlotte although I'm not 100% sure of this. It is possibly a Lady Agathe - I always get the two confused.

Thanks for the help in identifying these two. Were there several different model series of the Gentlemen's pen? I aak because when I've searched it appeared this pen didn't match the design I saw and it had me convinced it was a different model altogether.

Hi,

Yes, GVL is right, the red is Lady Charlotte. It sold for about 100.00 MSRP, I think.
Lady Agathe has the same shape, but came in more of a swirled pattern. Agathe also has gold appointments, as opposed to gold-plated. It came with its own cylindrical carrying case that resembled the pen's pattern. MSRP was around 300.00.

The G'man is also one of my favourites. It was available in several finishes: silver-plated, gold-plated, burgundy, black, blue, green.

As for pens with the "man" name, Waterman had the Gentleman, but the higher end pens were the LeMan 200, and the huge and gorgeous LeMan 100. The LeMan pens were available in several finishes not available on the G'man.

Diane,

Great information and thanks to you and gvl for the help in identifying these.

The Lady Charlotte was sitting in a lonely showcase at the FPH when I spied her and got her on sale, I believe, for nothing near that selling price.

I can't recall when I bought the Gentlemen's.

Hi Zoe,The G'man was available in late 80s- mid 90s. They do pop up on eBay once in a while. Hope you got a great price on that one, too!

Thanks satrap for the information on the difference between Agathe and Charlotte.

Incidently, I believe the Gentleman was first released by Waterman in the mid 1970s - note the similarites in design with the Parker 75 and Sheaffer Targa. The Le Man pens came later - introduced in the early 1980s. During those few years before the models ran alongside, was the Gentleman Waterman's flagship model? As far as I recall, in terms of size, it was the largest.

Hi GVL,

Hmmm... I got my first Waterman, the Executive, December 1986 Now I am trying to remember the old Farhney's catalogues...
G'man could have been flagship before then. Where is Lewertowski?!? thumbup.gif
