Does anyone have a pic of both of the grays that the Estie J comes in? I have, I think, the darker of the two. Is it possible that it's just a color variance? Like I have seen different shades of green as well.

Thanks!

Cathy,

For the Js: there seem to be two shades of the brown, one like copper and the other more like rootbeer. The green did have a formal color change from a very green green to a more olive green. The gray seems to come in a silvery gray and and a much darker version. The blue can sometimes fade to the point that it looks gray. Red and black seem to have remained the same color.

Some consider the colors variants and some true changes. I guess most often the green shift is considered a true change and the others just batch variation but most of us try to get one of each....

Yep, just like Todd said .. there are different views on which color variations were intentional and which were just the result of batch variability.

Richard Binder has an interesting color chart of the J series at the bottom of this page: http://www.richardspens.com/?page=ref_info/j_profile.htm

Thanks! I saw a green one and it was a very bright green!

Estie dye lots vary considerably---I have 10 green Esties and each is different---from a very dark green to a quite yellow green--ditto for othe colors,---e.g., blue that ranges from almost purple to a very pale blue. The same holds true for the other colors---deep,dark reds to an almost copper color (sometimes one has to have a side by side comparison to tell the difference) but a red. The same hold true for some of the icicle colors---especially the red-copper distinction.

To me, the color variations in the blue and red pearls is amazing. Some of the darker colors
don't even look near the same color as the lighter colors with their differences in patterning. I
like the darker blues and reds much better than their lighter siblings.

Me too. The blue one I got right here in the Marketplace. It's blue/purple. Reminds me of Tanzanite.
