Hello,
my understandig is, after reading some threads here, that Aurora makes their own nibs. I would like to know how the Aurora nibs compare in size to the Bock nibs used by other pen makers. I mean: can I put a nib made by Aurora on the section of a pen that takes standard 6mm (feed diameter) Bock nibs (like Stipula, Visconti, Montegrappa, Tibaldi,...)? Which Aurora nibs are compatible to the ones from Bock?

Nelson

Hello,Nelson!
I cannot say if Bock nibs can be compared to Aurora nibs(never having used a Bock nib before);I do know that Aurora
nibs screw into the section very much like Pelikan nibs. Not sure if an Aurora nib would fit though.
I humbly confess my ignorance on nib switching..........

Hello John,
thank you very much for your comment. What I would like to know is if just the nibs can be exchanged, not the whole assembly. Per example, I have a bent nib on a Tibaldi Iride and would like to put an Aurora nib (from an Optima) in the pen instead, but I don't know if they are of the same size.

Hi Nelson
please post a picture of the Bock nib with sizes and I will check my Aurora nibs.

Hello Dirk,
here are 3 pictures of the nib. The ruler is in cm/mm. As far as I know this nib is called a #6 nib size, because the diameter of the feed is 6mm. Please let me know, if you need any more information.

Nelson

Aurora makes their own nibs, so my general expectation is that it wouldn't work. That said, there's always the chance that it might.

Dont have an answer to give you but I do want to point that I had the joy of trying few Aurora nibs and they all felt the same-wet,smooth but all with a bit of a tooth so in general they are wonderful BUT...
When comparing my 2 Omas nibs to the Aurora nibs the Omas is much better.
First Omas nibs are more responsive, that menas they have more character and they conect you almost perfectly to the paper. They are smoother and simply have a magic that Aurora (or any other maker that I tried) dont have.I would never put an Aurora nib instead of an Omas nib.

Good morning.
I don't think Aurora nibs will work in Visconti pens. The nibs seems to be a little bit too broad (7mm to 6mm of the Visconti ones).

Nelson,
an interesting consequence that I can draw from your question is that
ANY 6mm Bock nib can fit whatever pen that originally was made to go with a Bock nib. Is this correct? have you tried to swap between different makes?
I'm asking because I remember Bock said that any nib is made upon the customer request and different makes have different requirements... then I wonder if those requirements have restrictions, for example on feed size and depth.
Thank you,
Andrea

Hi, Andrea. Standard Bock nibs can easily be switched from one brand to another (eg, from a Stipula to a Tibaldi, from a Tibaldi to a Bexley, and so forth). Best,

Hello,
@Dirk: Thank you very much for the pictures. Based on them I would conjecture that the nib would fit. There are small variations on the size of the nibs that I have. I will consider buying one Aurora nib to try.
@Andrea: As pointed before, normally you can swap Bock nibs of the same size (like #6 or #8) between different pens. I have swapped Visconti, Montegrappa, Tibaldi, Danitrio und Bexley nibs without problems. I even put a whole #8 Bock nib assembly from Danitrio on my Bexley Prometheus with just a small modification of the breather tube in the feed.

David, Nelson,
thank you for your reply. That's interesting, to me this is definetly one more "plus" for the in house nib companies.
Cheers,
Andrea
