Hi All,
Did Pilot made a titanium pen in the T-series in the 1970s? I came across the pen in the photo and was wondering about it ?
Any information on this ?
Thank you
Nikolaos

Interesting. It looks like it could be titanium or a brushed steel. If 1970's, it could have been Pilot's answer to Parker. But isn't that nib from the 1980's?

The pen was made in 1975 and just like you Gary, i thought it might have been Pilot's answer to Parker's titanium pen. My contact is also not sure if it is or not, but based on the fact that the pen is very lightweight and by the texture of the material he thinks it might be titanium. I am hoping Stan might have an idea about it.

Hi.
I've seen a few of those pens with the T tag. All were the light grey color and seemingly, lighter in weight than stainless. In lieu of pure titanium, they could be an alloy of titanium steel. From a marketting perspective, it would not be dishonest.
A source in Japan said they were titanium but, would not swear to it.
I will send an email to a friend who accesses the Pilot archives. Might be a few days before I receive an answer.

Hi Stan,
thank you for the comment. It will be great if you could dig that information out of the Pilot archives. It is a pretty interesting pen and it is titanium that would be really cool since it would have been a very difficult material to machine back in the 1970s.
Thanks

Received the folowing from my friend at Pilot. This appears to be from from a period catalogue.
There was no mention of titanium. Sorry.
・High-quality fountain pen slim T1000SS(18K F/M) hair line stainless steel Y10,000
・Although the nib may be dated earlier he said it went on sale in 1978.
・There was a mechanical pencil ballpoint too. The price of each was Y4,000.

Looks a lot like Lamy Stainless Steel, only with gold trim and without the funky clip.
Altogether, this looks like an attractive combo. of the Studio Stainless Steel and Palladium (gold nib) -- perhaps even the model for those particular styles. All the "brushed" look, the rubber grip, and gold trim. The more I read about Pilot, the more impressed I am with the intelligence and integrity of their designs/products.
Thanks to "Nikolaos" for posting the pictures!

Hi, I have one of these and it is a very nice pen but definately steel. The finish is basically the same as the Lamy Studio and the front of the Lamy2000 section. The section on the T is a grippy matte-finish plastic and the nib is from the Pilot Deluxe series. It is thin and light but feels very high quality. I think i paid $80 for a new one and would be happy to pay a bit more.
