I included a linked image in a post, and the image appeared in Preview. However, when I later returned to the thread, the image was not there in my post. So, I went to Edit in order to check on the code for the link and reinsert it, but the link was there.
Why would a linked image cease to appear?

I noticed that the images had disappeared from one of Mary's posts in the CS forum. Wonder what's happened. In the CS case the image link is still in Mary's post, what I don't know is whether or not she's having some problems with images on her server.

Were you logged in? If not, there is only a placeholder for images stored on the FPN server. If an image is stored elsewhere, you don't need to log in to view it.

It is a pecularity of this software that if you insert an image then review your post, you will lose the image. Just review your post first, then add the image (or alternatively type carefully and just post away). You can always edit typos out after posting.

Something I did once without thinking was to remove the image to which I was linking from Photobucket, thinking that it had served its purpose ....ooops!

I just had this problem only to find that I had used up all my available attachment space.Does this mean I need to delete images from my earlier posts, like my ink scans? Won't that make my ink scan posts useless? Or am I doing something wrong? Help, please!

Well, there are things one can do.
Post smaller images. If all we are doing is looking at them on a monitor, one doesn't need the 300dpi resolution many people post.
Link to a picture posted on a dedicated photo site. Photobucket, Flikr, Yahoo all have sites where pics may be hosted.
There may be relief in sight, as we are looking into having a companion site that people could post on where the pics would be stored. Can't say when we're going to be able to put that up though.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll start deleting my old images then. Apologies to anyone who hasn't seen my ink scans. It's too late for me to edit the original post and replace the big pictures with smaller ones.

Here's something that you might be able to do.
I have all of my images stored on my computer(they're also on the pic card in my digital camera). I have a free account
with Flickr where I send them to be downsized and send them back to my computer. As a result, I--
1)Have a place where the pics can be downsized;
2)Have 3 places(camera card,computer and Flickr)where I can download downsized pics to this forum;and
3)Don't have to use up or get rid of pics already in My Controls.

Why not store the new pictures on one of the photo sites mentioned and link to them in your new reviews?
That should work, without removing any useful info from your past posts.
If you did want to resize some of the old review pictures, I'm sure you could find some friendly mod or admin to help editing the posts.

I removed all of my pictures that weren't ink scans or reviews and I'm still way over the attachment limit. Odd, I've never had this problem before.
I guess I'll just post my new reviews on my blog, if I do them at all. (I was set to post my ink sampler with reviews before FPN changed the editing time limit. I like to do a little bit at a time and add to it. Obviously that won't work in the new editorial time frame.)
Instead, I was just posting a quick scan in the ink scans section, sort of a first step to posting my reviews. Now that my old pictures have to go before I can add new ones here, I might as well just put them on my blog instead.
Contacting one of the admins to resize my old pictures is just more of a time commitment than I want to make. Ditto posting the pictures to my site and then reposting a review here and linking all the pictures to my blog page. Of course, if everyone does this it will be the death of the ink review section. Hopefully, other FPNers have the extra time. Not that I don't love you people, but my schedule is tight these days.
