Full Version: PR Black Cherry stability?

I'm a little leery after ordering THEN reading wallbash.gif about the instability of PR's Burgundy Mist (love the color right now but how long will it last? who knows!). I like PR's Black Cherry but fear the same results. Anyone here have a negative color change experience with Black Cherry? If so can anyone recommend a similar (meaning looks like dried blood, I swear I'm not a pyschopath laugh.gif ) color that retains it's hue over time, in the bottle, on the page, in the nib?

Thanks in advance and have a super weekend...just think of all the money I'm saving by missing the PA Pen Show...yeah right, that's why I'm looking at more inks to buy on-line!!! biggrin.gif

My oldest documents written with PR Black Cherry are only six months old, but look just like the documents I wrote today. No noticable color change for me. I use Southworth Natural Fine Business Paper.

Didn't have any problems with color changes on these other than when Black Cherry dries it's a lot browner than I would have liked. I found it dry writing which some people like. I don't. Burgundy Mist is a nice color even if I didn't care for the flow characteristics. Basically, i think in terms of colors both are fairly stable. My main problem with a PR ink in this regard was Copper Burst. If I said otherwise, I made a mistake. I sometimes confuse Black Cherry and Copper Burst in discussion.

What was the problem with Copper Burst, KCat? I was thinking of getting some, but if there's something I should know...

Thanks KCat - good info as usual biggrin.gif Actually the Burgundy Mist (as least with this flex nib I'm using, haven't tried it yet with a F/M stub so there could be a slight variation) is drying darker than I imagined as well. I've gone ahead and ordered some Black Cherry (thanks for your 6 month report Fred smile.gif ) and also some SwishMix Maroon. I'm alos loving Elaine B's Garnet mix, too - lovely stuff!

I wish I could fine something the color of this wonderful burgundy chenille blanket I have. Perhaps one day they'll have fountain pen ink color swatch sample capabilities, just like at Home Depot or Kelly Moore laugh.gif

i found it lost it's "copper" over time. It went from a fairly nice soft brown with reddish tint, to a yellow-brown. Don't know why and never further investigated to see if it was a problem with a batch or the recipe as a whole though I think I have heard of at least one other person that had this experience. Do keep in mind that this was...quite some time ago. I really can't recall how many years. 4? so my experience may have been batch dependent.

Thanks, KCat - that's good to know.
