After buying my Pelikan M400 (here is my post in the Pelikan page
http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...t&p=666518) I went to Paper Plus and purchased a Ruby Red Parker Sonnet GT 18ct plated medium nib. Bit of a mouthful!
Apparently they were meant to be on sale at $134 NZD (£51, $101 USD) but yesterday the salesman told me $104.50 NZD (£40, $79 USD) and sold it to me for that price.
I love the look at feel but haven't inked or even dipped it yet. I can't quite bring myself to do so. I know I will eventually once I decide what to do with it (full it up and start writing or soak/clean it first).
I wasn't really intending to buy a Sonnet and had already passed up a used French Red Lacquer 23ct nib earlier in the day as it had a hairline crack in the barrel. I was really after a Parker "51 "but I couldn't resist a new Sonnet at that price. If I had more than a couple of dollars left I would have bought a couple of Vector and Jotter's!

I have that pen and it is one of my favorites. It is just beautiful to look at and fondle...
You got it for a great price - congratulations!

I have inked it and am enjoying it. I might ring up Sanford tomorrow though and ask if they will tune the nib under warranty. It doesn't feel bad but it also doesn't feel any nicer than my Lamy Al-Star, although it looks a lot nicer!. If they won't do it I won't complain and shall still write with it. I thought it can't hurt to as though.
What colour is yours langere?

yes, i got my sonnet pen from this ebay seller last year, but now their prices increased, i remember last year i use only less than 40 pounds for a sonnet set (fountain pen + ball point).
the box is just the one shown on the picture.

If I had to guess it would be because different regions have different boxes.
Does anyone else know anything more about Parker boxes?

How exceptional -- my first two rather nice pens were a Pelikan (though, a 215) and a Sonnet!! And, again as coincidence would have it, exactly the same color Sonnet. I really like mine actually, as the flow level is just right for my comfort (mine is a medium). Not butter smooth, but overall very smooth -- and almost as well, given I like a contrast to my other pens.
Enjoy the pens. =)
And, I wouldn't worry, I've received Parkers in the same case you have posted there, though my own did look different.

I have tried to write with and be pleased with how my Sonnet writes but I can't. It really does feel like a nail dragging across the page. My Parker Reflex feels magnitudes smoother than the Sonnet.
Tomorrow I will ring Sanford New Zealand up and ask if I can have the nib tuned under warranty. Don't get me wrong, I still love the pen and as long as Sanford gets it writing nicely it will see a lot of use (at least until I get my Pel 400NN nib repaired).

Oh my. I thank my stars that my Sonnet turned out okay (at least until now). I actually have a Reflex too, and one of the first things I did with my Sonnet was to write with both within moments of each other to compare -- the Sonnet lets less ink loose, but is still smoother. A perfect balance.
I'm writing this without looking back at your picture, but either way -- I think gold nibs really do have a little something in terms of charm.

I took my Sonnet to Sanford New Zealand today and they are going to ship it to Australia for repair.
They two pen cases, one containing Parker and the other Waterman pens. In the Parker case there was a Nassau Green Parker 51! It looked mint, no scratches at all from what I could see and the colour looked fantastic. The case looked like it was brand new, no discolouring at all. I think the people in the office thought I was a bit mad with the way I was drooling over the 51.

The boxes you guys talking about are both authentic parker boxes.
Some pens come with the Gray box, other with the black. I have contacted Sanford on this before and the black boxes are what they also sell if you need extra box for your Parker pens.
Hope this helps

I thought that they might use different boxes. In New Zealand I have only ever seen the box I have though.
Thanks tonyD.

Mine, which I picked up Monday, has a pull out drawer box. Inside was a 3 pen wrap with the Stainless G/T Sonnet and a cartridge within. Not impressed with the very small jewel in the top of the cap, being quite small and attached off center with up to 1/64" of space around it. Looks very shoddy. Also the nib is overly wide for a Fine. Not impressed.

I know the sale is over, but do you know if they were only selling their stock at half price? Or do they ask for the same price even if they have to order it in from somewhere else?
Because I'm thinking of buying a new Sonnet as well, but they don't have the one I want in the shops. If they sell everything half price then I'll wait for the next sale, at Whitcoulls or Paperplus, if not, then I might as well order one in online myself.
Thank you.

Hello fellow New Zealand fountain pen fan! That is a good question you ask but sadly it is one I do not know the answer to.
What Sonnet in particular are you after?
If you are in Auckland and are looking for pens I recomend Whitcoulls Queen Street (no affiliation, just a happy customer) as they carry stock that other locations do not and they will order pens and accessories for you.

Hello! Yes, I live in Auckland, in fact, within ten minutes walking distance of the Queen Street Whitcoulls.
But unfortunately they don't have in stock the one I'm after. I'm looking for an laque black GT extra fine. I know they can order one from overseas but I thought it might be faster if I buy one online myself, but on second thought, it is definitely safer to order through them due to all the fakes lying around.
