I have recently purchased some old stationery online, Crane's "Greylawn" satin finish.
Will this work well with fountain pens, I wonder?
Thank you.

Well, since you've already bought the paper, why not try and post a review?

What a coincidence. Tidying up a cupboard last weekend and found a stash oh greylawn myself - must be at least 10 years old. It is a lovely writing sheet from memory but haven't tried it for a while. I actually went to Cranes'site to see if it was still made, but it has been deleted. Let us know what you think.

I'd love to see how that works, too - saw some on eBay recently but didn't want to take the FP risk!

Well, okay. When it gets here, I will give you all my review.

My Crane's "Greylawn" satin-finish stationery arrived today.
It seems to be very fountain-pen friendly, quite smooth -- almost slick -- and I would say that, with the two pens I tested, the paper is very conducive to a consistent flow of ink and tends to make the line width a bit broader -- which is good news to me. I'm really quite tired of the regular Crane's I've been using, which seems to "catch" the nib of most of my fountain pens and makes them write more dryly than I like. With the satin finish, even my lousy Parker Sonnet writes like a normal medium, which it is, rather than the fine, dry scratchy son-of-a-gun it has proven to be in general.
I guess my original question was prompted by my concern that perhaps satin finish stationery in general had some sort of plastic coating which might clog the nib of a fountain pen, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
But I'm tired now and that's all I have to offer.

Thanks for reviewing this satin paper for us. I don't have the paper, but I have handy Oxford plain cahiers 90 grams with glossy paper finish. Bought one a couple weeks ago and was wondering if the highly glossy, satin paper was going to be fp friendly or if it would smudge and feather the ink. I've got some encouragement from this post and it may try one medium nib to star with and the regular W. Florida Blue.
Can I ask what ink was used in yours?

Ondina, I used Sheaffer blue/black and Parker blue. I haven't had the time to experiment much yet, but I imagine most inks would perform well with this paper.
