I am looking for a nice petrol blue - I have Diamine Teal but this is a really green teal and I am looking for something on the blue side of this now. i remember I had a house with great colour walls once and the colour was described as 'petrol' blue so i guess a really dark turquoisey kind of colour. For those in the UK it seems to be a popular colour for Fords at the moment (well there's one across the road from me anyway)

so any suggestions of colours please so I can check the reviews - ta

Silly question: What about Turquoise?

The Diamine Turquoise is quite dark (to my eyes at least), particularly with a wet medium nib.
Alternatively the Diamine Aqua blue, which Phil says is a bit lighter (on my list to try when I get a few bob spare).

Regards

Richard.

Hmm. Sounds like Noodlers Legal Lapis. It's a very dark teal/turquoise - in a medium or broad nib. I find it's almost black in a fine nib.

I shall have an investigate - thanks

I have some turquoise ink - a rotring and Lamy and the colour I am looking for is darker than both by a fair bit

i will have a look at reviews for your suggestions.... thanks biggrin.gif

What about Diamine Steel Blue? I did have a bottle, but then reading reviews here I'm not sure if mine was representative of the colour. It was quite a dark turquoise with quite a strong hint of green in it.
Had to nosy over to the Ford site to see what colours you might be on about - http://www.ford.co.uk/ns7/focmca/foc0108_e...fig_ext/-/-/-/-
Nellie
Maybe Noodler's Ottoman Azure?

Ah, if I just had a teal Ford, these shoes from E-Bay, and a teal pen and ink to match - I'd be all set! Just picture it! roflmho.gif

I did check the ford site but they dont seem to have it on there anymore - hence the link to shoes lticaptd.gif
i did also think maybe I would add some black to some turquoise and see if I can get there myself.....

I think the nearest so far is Noodlers Legal Lapis - but I dont fancy bulletproof or shipping from the US

I posted the link because I couldn't figure out which colour you might be referring to roflmho.gif Can't say I've spotted an abundance of dark turquoise Fords round here, must be a south west thing roflmho.gif

Maybe Noodler's Ottoman Azure?

I'd call petrol a color halfway between Ottoman Azure and Private Reserve Blue Suede.
lefty928
The recent review on PR Ebony Blue looks promising? I agree that Ottoman Azure might also be a candidate. Pendemonium once had a Parker Sonnet available in Petrol Blue. It was a pretty color.

The shoes look decidedly blueish, maybe a peacock blue. I don't know, maybe a combo of Noodler's Navaho Turquoise and black?

Curious why it's a blue. Is this to reference the color petroleum based oil makes as a slick on top of water?

For a really dark teal, I like R&K Verdigris.

Not that I know of. It's a blue-green. The color name has mystified me, but it is one of my favorites.

One of my Tombow Object pens is in what is described as "petrol blue" which I would describe as like teal, only more blue, and darker than turquoise. You don't want Diamine Steel Blue because it is too far on the green side. EDIT: hmm, it isn't really teal at all, definitely blue, pushing into the indigo range.

Here's a pic of the petrol blue Tombow....(the real thing is darker IMO) (Courtesy Andy's Pens)

MiniMaupassant
it's definitely got to be Navajoe Turquoise, which is a favourite of mine, especially in a wet M nib

I've seen it spelled "petrel" but I'm not sure if this is just an alternative spelling or a reference to the bird.

The PR Blue Suede looks promising - I am off to investigate navajo turquise, Ebony Blue and R&K Verdigris

This is a petrel --

Not much blue there.
I assume that some countries dye their petrol (fuel, not the birds. Dyeing petrels blue only annoys them...), just as we in Aus dye our petrol red. We dye our Kerosene blue, and keep our paraffin clear, but then some people use the word paraffin for kerosene. Is that clear?

MiniMaupassant
Calliej - I've just compared the pen picture with some writing in Ottoman Azure and think that you need to add it to your investigation list. This is more of a blue than a green. Navajoe Turquoise is more of a green than a blue! wacko.gif
calliej
It just so happens I have a page of beautifully scripted Ottoman Azure in my hand right now (hmmm I wonder who that was from? cool.gif ) and it's close... if it was a little deeper, but then in one of my pens it just may be..... yes it is on the list.

There is a De Atramentis "Petrol" ink, which I don't like, as it is really of that oily medium greenish-yellowish blue ... rolleyes.gif . I don't want to receive aletter written with it.

In the US we dye our gasoline (petrol) yellow. It's a very pale yellow, too.

Diesel fuel for highway use is blue in the U.S. while diesel fuel for off-road use is dyed red.

Hmmm....PR Blue Suede is much much greener than the colour of that pen. It's a good ink in its own right, but not petrol blue (as defined by that picture).
Navajo Turquoise or PR Naples Blue might be a closer match.
PigRatAndGoat
Oh, try Waterman South Sea Blue ink. I used in daily when I was in school. Very nice colour, and I think reasonably close to the colour of that pen.
calliej
I think it is going to be either PR naples or if I can get some from the US without it costing a fortune Swisher Aquamarine. Legal lapis would also do it but same problem with shipping.

Thanks all - will post a sample when I get it through.

I recently came across something I'd written with the Ottoman Azure and I agree that it's a good candidate. I remember thinking when I got the bottle that it's a color I'd like to wear (and did, many years ago, when "jewel tones" were popular -- this was called teal -- many, many, many years ago ...) but perhaps not write with that often. Blue with green tones like the swatch.
