Has anyone had this happen?

My Carene with stub nib has been an excellent pen and a lovely writer – until a few days ago. I recently flushed and refilled with PR Black Cherry and all seemed to be working well until a few days later when I took the cap off to find the entire nib section to be covered in ink. I emptied what was left of the ink and cleaned the pen out before refilling with Diamine Saddle Brown which has always worked well in this pen. Next day – same problem. The pen was in a pouch and remained upright i.e. with the nib upwards – same problem.

Anyone any suggestions about what has happened to suddenly turn a nice writing pen into a leaking flood zone?

I owned a Carene and it always did this, from day one. Made the pen unuseable, so I had to get rid of it . . .

Ouch. That shade PR should be a well behaved ink in that pen as I use it to AND toss mine on the desk horizontally. I'd shoot an email to Mr Lewertowski [you'll find his posts around these parts] and ask his advice, being the guru of Watermans and a real gentleman hmm1.gif

Problem solved. Mr Lewertowski advised me to give the pen a really thorough clean and to make sure there were no traces of ink in either the cap or the nib. Cleaned and dried both items as instructed before refilling and it seems to have solved the problem.

My Carene stub is behaving perfect again now cloud9.gif
