Does anyone know, from experience or otherwise, how much I'm likely to see of Sailor and Pilot pens at the D.C. Supershow? I've been considering a Sailor pen for awhile, and was thinking how nice it would be to handle some of them before buying. And the show is coming up in about a month, so . . . am I waiting for nothing? I can't imagine the price of one would be better than, say Pam Braun's, but any info regarding their availability at this particular show would be great. I only went once, in 2006, and I was too wowed to remember. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the Nakaya people, at least. happyberet.gif

There is usually excellent representation at the DC Supershow. Normally, there is a major Sailor booth with the Japanese nib master there to customize your new purchase or existing purchases of Sailor pens (or others). I believe this is arranged through Fahrney's or one of the other exhibitors - you will need to make a reservation or beg (as I did the last time) in order to get your pen ground. I had my Sailor 1911 ground to an excellent italic nib. A number of the larger sellers (Fountain Pen Hospital, Swisher, etc) have a lot of good Japanese pens on sale - I've seen lots of Pilots at good prices and interesting finishes for sale at various Supershows. I believe there was representation from Nakaya (I am certainly hoping so this time). If this is your first Supershow, be prepared - it's very overwhelming the first time - lots and lots of goodies to see and buy. The dealers are amazingly friendly and helpful. Bring a checkbook, although more and more dealers are accepting credit cards on site. Good luck!

Well thank you for your fast reply! I did make the D.C. show in 2006 and definitely was overwhelmed. I'm relieved to know that I'll be able to try out Sailors and Pilots and that waiting will be worth it. It's such a shame that these pens are so limited, especially Sailors, in pen stores in my area.

Sailor will be there, and they usually have some nice new pieces to present. What's more, they usually do a good job of getting them out to the dealers, too. And as a special added bonus they're bringing Nagahara Jr. over this year, and he's a wonder with nibs, Sailor or otherwise...

Dick Egolf should have a nice display for his Luxury Brands lines, which include Platinum. Kevin Cheng usually has a stupendous display of Danis, some at very good prices. Plus you'll find all the latest Platinums, Sailors, and Pilots at most of the new pen dealers. Usually some good prices to be had from Swisher, Bertram's, FPH, Total Office Products, Bittner, and any number of other dealers I've forgotten.

A couple of years ago there was a private seller there with an absolutely crazy selection of Japanese pens from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I picked up a really neat Pilot in a tapered shape in wood with a great Falcon style music nib. I hope he's back this year with some more fresh stuff!

Kevin is often there. If he is, then you get up close and personal with some great Japanese pens. Kevin, stan, will you be there?

Uh . . . definitely bringing checkbook, credit card, some cash; will probably leave common sense at home. roflmho.gif

Ya, I never pack any of that.

Speaking of Mr. Nagahara Jr., does anyone know how long he'll be at the show? I can't find any information on what days and times he'll be available. sad.gif
