Full Version: Best Place for Custom Seals?

Some time ago, I ordered a custom seal of the symbol in my avatar image. Unfortunately, while the seal itself looks very nice, the engraving is so shallow that it won't leave a legible impression in sealing wax. I've been considering purchasing a replacement, but I'm not sure where to go.

What would you folks consider to be the best source for a custom-made seal?

Dexter seals. Very expensive. Very much on my wish list. I've commissioned an artist to create the artwork for my seal, though, in anticpation of being able to afford one in the near future. I tried to find it, but couldn't right off, but they show an example there somewhere of a very fine line carving of a crane in a bloodstone signet, so I have no doubt they can take your design and get it right for you.

Egad... how about the second-best? It looks as if their prices start at $400 or so. There's no way I could afford that. Though if I'm ever in the market for a signet ring, I now know where to turn. smile.gif

I probably should have specified that I'm looking for the best source for custom seals whose prices won't make me gasp and flop about like a salmon in the bottom of a canoe, awaiting the stroke of the fisherman's club. biggrin.gif

I am interested in this matter as well, but I have the same concern that Djehuty has.

Those Dexter pieces are quite amazing. I will consider one of those at some point in the future, but for now, are there any other suggestions?

Looks like a good option. I don't see any prices listed on full-custom seals, but the quasi-custom seals are $40, so I will conjecture that the full-custom seals aren't nearly as costly as Dexter's.

Thanks.

I have one from

And am very happy with it. I may well order another!

Thanks! That gives me two good (and affordable) options to check out. smile.gif

I had my ancestors' coat of arms made into a brass seal for sealing wax by Patrick Rideau of Papier Plume at 842 Royal St in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Tel: (504) 251 0893. Check the website. The engraving was deeply cut. They also sell pens, ink, handmade paper and the like, especially for dip and quill pens.

I really must write that review.
