Which type of converter do I need for an Imperial? I've looked on the Writing Desk and they show a classic converter, but it's out of stock.
http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduc...pares&subr= Do I need to find this classic converter or will the modern piston converter they also have fit?

I've run across a couple of Imperials in which the "classic" converter won't fit, but in general it's a pretty safe bet the converter will fit most Sheaffers. You can't be so certain with the piston converter. For instance, the piston converter won't fit into the Connaisseur, while the classic will.
The cases where it wouldn't fit were where the barrel ID wasn't made right, or the end of the barrel wasn't drilled out completely, so the converter got stuck. In those cases a slim Targa converter will work, as will the mini Montiverdi converter.

Looks like I'm best trying to find a classic one from somewhere then doesn't it.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get hold of Classic converters for ages. However, we are still hopeful which is why the item has not been removed from our website.
<just wait while I rummage in the cupboard for an Imperial> The modern piston converter will fit an Imperial, or more specifically it's a perfect fit in the Imperial that I have here.

I am pretty sure I have Imperials the piston converter won't fit, although the more I learn about Sheaffer pens the less I know. But don't discount the mini-Monteverde converters. They fit anything Sheaffer that I have tried them on. One out of about 10 leaked, but at $4.50 apiece, who cares. They are practically disposable. Steve
