Hi!

Four months into my new hobby of buying, restoring and selling vintage pens. I have studied hard and seem to have mastered (maybe that's over stating it) a lot of the basics, replacing sacs, basic cleaning, refinishing and polishing, even gold re-plating which is fascinating to do.

What I don't know is nibs! Quite a few of my pens need new nibs. The old ones were worn down and cracked and no longer working. So I have a fully functional pen but no nib.

A lot of these were "Warented" gold-plated nibs. Some 14K. All with different #s.

What I need is a basic source of this type of nib that I can buy a selection of and try and replace them.

Am I thinking about this right? Pendimonium has a real reasonably priced nib that looks like brass or bronze, definitely , but it doesn't seem to fit the pens. It's name is Durium.

They also have a gold plated Sengbrush brand for about $24 a piece.

Then the other sites I've visited have nibs in the $50+ to $200 range. Way out of my league.

Thanks.

David from Westchester

Any advice would be appreciated.

David, from the historical perspective, this article by Rob Astyk might go a long way in explaining some of those Warranted nibs and their various numbers and sizes.

Wish I had an explanation for you as far as a modern-day equivalent, but sadly, I think it's a bit of a hunting game. The thrill of the chase, right? smile.gif

If you can list out some of what you've got that needs a nib, we might be able to help point you towards something that would fit.
