I was speaking with another collector and they asked me about my 146. I said it was a146sp... Then he asked, doesnt that mean Sterling Plated? I thought, well yeah that makes sense... But my 146"SP" is 925 silver...
Any help, do I have an 146SP or does SP stand for something different?
Cheers!

I think "S" may stand for the Solitaire series. I dont know what the "P" is for.

These would make perfect sense. Can anyone else confirm this?

No, "SP" might be a commercial synonym but it's not an official appellation by Montblanc. Montblanc used and uses the no. "8" behind the model number for all Meisterstück Solitaire Sterling Silver pens with Pinstripe guilloche (ec. 1468 for a LeGrand fountain pen or 1648 for the Classique ballpoint).
Best regards,
Axel

I will get back to you on this. I have the official MB sales book which breaksdown all models and model numbers etc.
They do use numbers to denote finish as already stated. I have a 144 in silver with the barlecorn finish as opposed to pinstripe and I know for sure that it is shown on the model as a number not a letter.
When I get home I will have a look and re post.

Ian

On the packaging of my "146SP" there is no reference to this name. There are a bunch of other identification numbers but again, there is no "146SP." However, numerous "online" stores refer to this pen as 146SP. It's also my understanding that the 146SB was referred to as the barleycorn version. As mentioned earlier, this is probably just a convenient way for merchants, collectors, etc. to identify this pen. When I purchased my pen I was told that the SP stands for sterling, pinstripe.

This rumor has to be wrong as the LeGrand as well as the Classique Sterling Silber pens still are on the Montblanc web site.

FWIW, I called Executive Essentials wishing to place an order and they told me that the pen was no longer available from the manufacturer. I then visited a Montblanc boutique here in the USA and they indeed confirmed that the pen was no longer available and only had their existing stock... Not trying to spread a "rumor" just reporting what two merchants (one being Montblanc and the other an authorized dealer) stated.

Yes, the Barleycorn guilloche was discontinued in 1998 to keep the pattern for the 75th anniversary Solitaires in 1999.

Yes, barleycorn was discontinued long ago. Perhaps some of our European counterparts can verify that the Pinstripe has been discontined via Montblanc in Europe? Regarding the US, please see my post above.
