If ever your nib(factory stock) suffers due to excessive usage, would you send it to a nibmeister or just buy a new nib replacement?

thanks
KCat
depends on the nib. GP - buy new. 14K or 18K - nibmeister.

Pelikan 800 nib new is about $170 in the US.

So I just sent one of mine to Richard Binder for a flow adjustment and tuneup, which I hope will be about $25.

So, IMO, the more expensive nibs are probably worth sending out for a fix, although I suppose if the nib got "destroyed" you might be better off with a new one.

Holy cow! How much writing do you do? I can understand needing a repair due to nib-down dropping or excessive pressure but excessive usage?

hm. i didn't even snap to the "excessive usage" part of the question. Shows you how much I was paying attention. You'd have to investigate how much retipping would cost if it's a matter of worn tipping v. how much a new nib would cost. If it's just uneven tipping or if you've been pressing too hard and the tines are misaligned, then repair of a gold nib would be cheaper than buying new.

Excessive pressure, that's what bother's me. embarrassed_smile.gif
