I picked up the following pen on ebay. The seller did a better job with pictures than I could, so I'll just link to the auction.

The ebay listing

The pen is marked (in several places) as Ferme Pen Co. and made in Japan. So far I'm coming up empty in my searches. The only thing that I've found was a posting from July 5, 2000 on Penlovers Bulletin Board Archive.

Anybody know anything about the company and/or the pen?

Try the Pens from the Land of the Rising Sun forum. Some really good folks there.

I can't help too much, but there's a Japanese book called "万年筆の友達" (Pen Friend) by Kouichi Furuyama that has a little info. You can find a preview online in PDF format if you can type in Japanese. For some reason I couldn't get the link to work properly when I copied it and pasted.

According to the page in the book, the company bought nibs from Montblanc and installed them in their pens (I'm not sure if it's all models or just the one noted in the book).

On another site a blog/diary writer talks about how he thought the Ferme he inherited from his grandfather was a Platinum, since his grandfather always used Platinum cartridges. But upon finding the info in the Pen Friend book he thinks it's a much more special pen than he thought.

I also found the address of the Ferme Co. in Tokyo. Fuermu is how it's pronounced in Japnaese. The directory entry below says "Fountain pens, mechanical pencils, pen nib manufacture/pencil manufacture, ball pens, marking pen manufacture." Can't be 100% sure that it's the same company that made your pen, though.

Thanks everyone. I now know more than when I first got the pen. The converter removes fairly easily, but I might not have ever thought to try a Plantinum cartridge with it. I plan to do a review of it (as soon as I get a few spare minutes).
